I have a H.P. Pavillion dv 9500 laptop. Last night when I shut it down it was working OK. This morning when I turned it on the screen flashed,no picture, just a flash of light. Have tried to turn it on but it wont work. Anyone know what it might be, and how to fix it?
Thank You;

You may be one of the hundreds of thousands of people that have been ripped off by HP. The DV series laptops are known to have defective motherboards. When they get hot, the solder on the chipset will separate from the motherboard, causing the computer not to work.

You can TRY and go through HP for a repair, but you'll probably be out of luck and need to get a new laptop.

Where do you find this information about the Quote:The DV series laptops are known to have defective motherboards. When they get hot, the solder on the chipset will separate from the motherboard, causing the computer not to work. End of quote:? please provide just where this can be found.

1: I work in a computer shop. I have a pile of these, all with defective chipsets.
2: It's all over the Internet

Call HP for a replacement.

It's most likely out of warranty. They won't do anything but have him run in circles before he realizes he can't do anything,

It's out of warranty. Can I replace the motherboard. Or would it be best to just buy a new comp?

You're better off getting a newer, better quality machine. Don't get an HP. They're really bad,

I am sure hoping the new H.P. Pavilion dv6-3155dx that was just released, will have none of the problems.

They're better, but it's still an HP.

Well all laptopt,s are pretty much throw aways, all are really cheaply built except for maybe Panosonic's tough book. So no matter if it's and H.P. or Asus or any other Mfg. If they work for a year I say they met my required needs :-)

They may be throw aways for you but not so for many, many people. Asus' build quality are quite well known. Lenovo's T series are excellent.

And as for Voyagerfan99 and the DV series he is 100% correct. I and many others with HP's DV6000 and DV9000 series experienced nothing but headaches even with replaced motherboards. Do yourself a favor and just do a search for DV6000 and you'll see.

I did a Google search and I have read the posts, I am not disputing the facts. I will be watching my H.P. closely. :-)

after the first of the year I plan on obtaining another laptop, and will keep the Mfg.s you listed in mind and will check them out. Thank's for listing them.:)

Very wrong. Only cheap laptops are throw-aways. When you look at computers like Dell Latitudes, HP Business series laptops, Lenovo Thinkpads, and ASUS machines, they are not throw aways at all. They can last almost forever as long as you take care of them.

They may last forever but they quickly become obsolete, and are replaced with better systems. I look at both computers and DSLR cameras as being really state of the art for maybe two years.

Now I agree some units do last for many years, my old H.P. deskttop system is three years old, far out of date running Win. XP but still fairly useful.;)

Exactly. Just because it's not the latest and greatest doesn't mean it's still effective and useful.

I really took a banging many years ago when my local Computer Group leaders, talked me into placing a Toshiba T4800 laptop on order from CDW price $5000.

Back then I did not know it would be over 10 Months till it shipped, when I received it it was obsolete, and almost useless.:( This for many years turned me off on ever wanting a laptop again.

I have had many desktop computers over the years, but lately I have noticed many people replacing their desktop units with nice neat and really good laptops.

So I jumped into the laptop game, also I joined the wireless age. Replacing my non wireless printer/scanner with a new wireless printer/scanner, and setting up a Netgear wireless router.

Many things change quickly today and for the better, and at a much lower cost.:)

Ok I took your advice and went to Best Buy and bought and ASUS G73 it is one awsome laptop.:) I am in the process of seting it up right now.
