Hp Vs. Dell

I am looking into getting a new computer for x-mas. I really don't know anything about them other than what I have looked up. Which computer is a better computer for the money and what is recommended. My choices are between:

HP pavillion Dv5z series, amd athlon dual-core,4gb memory (free upgrade), 250 GB hard drive(free upgrade), webcam, finger print recognition. On sale now for $549.00


Dell Inspiron 1525, Core 2 duo, 3GB Ram, 250 GB hard drive. On sale now $559.00

Would I even need a 4gb memory if all we need a computer for is internet, e-mail, photos. You can also upgrade to a 3Gb.

My last question is what is th 32bit or 64 bit difference. From what I am reading a lot of things will not even open in a 64 bit so would it be worth it to get 64 or 32?

Any recommendations out there? As you can see, I don't know too much about computers but I am trying!:confused:
 
Based on the spec I would go with the dell.The intel cores run much cooler than the AMD as a general rule and I have always found the Intel cores to be more stable in laptops.

Both companies its hit or miss.You hear horror stories with both but I think Dell is easier to work with.
 
4 GB isn't needed but you will notice the difference in speed. AMD is good, I have had intel and AMD and have never seen a difference. I will say I don't like Dell customer service cause there people barley speak english. Only get 64 bit if you really want to make your computer fast by upgrading the memory up to 8 GB. I have a Dell inspiron and it sucks. Go hp.
 
I've had 4 HP computers, and every one of them has been an adware storage case. It's getting to the point where it's just insulting how much is pre-installed on it. Just based on that, i would go with the Dell. Dell and Gateway are the two best prebuild computers for non gamers out there. For the RAM, seldom is more than 4gb used for anything other than CAD programs and video editing. So, for those few processes, go with the better deal, not the most RAM. Thirdly, i suspect it's Vista 64, which means it doesn't have many compatibility issues, unless you are going to run the old Legacy stuff, but i doubt it. But, in reality, 64 won't do much for those processes, so, again, go with the better deal. Hope that helps.
 
Its not hard to go into your control panel and remove 99% of the hp pre-install crap. took me less than five minutes.

But that does not always get it out.

McAfee,Nortons and AOL find a way to hide their stuff so even if you remove them in control panel,,they are still embedded in the memory somewhere and will come back to haunt you one day.

I use a program that rids every file and folder containing these three demons.
 
i would go with the HP laptop

since most laptops dont support over 4 gig's of memory its useless to get 64 bit,
but i do think the hp is more bang for your buck
 
They both make good notebooks. I have 2 Dell's (Insp 8200 and XPS1710) and HP DV5210. They are all good notebooks but I prefer the Dell's. I have onsite care on the Dell's and it is the best. They are very solid. The HP has the build quality of a paper airplane with lot's of chassis flex and very loose screen hinges . Surprisingly, it has taken some serious abuse and still works like a charm. HP's don't come with any OS disc's and are loaded with Bloatware. Since the prices are so close I would get the Dell. If the prices were farther apart I might let my wallet decide.
 
Specs wise the dell is a little faster but, I would still go with the Hp. Hp is a very good name brand company and they put out quality machines unlike dell.
