HRD = High Dtnamic Range? (Cant Run HDR + AA?)

I am playing TestDrive Unlimited. I want it to look AMAZING (not that it already doesnt, lol).. but I see this option called "HDR", i assume this means High dynamic range.

HDR=high dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allow a far greater dynamic range of exposures (i.e. a large difference between light and dark areas) than normal digital imaging techniques

So this sounds absolutly like somehting i want.. But when I turn it on it turns AA off, and I can not turn AA on unless I have HDR unchecked.

Why is that, do they not play well together?.. is there a way to get them to both be on, or do I even want them both on.. To me it looks like 4XAA looks better than HDR.. I know I can turn AA on in my control pannel and then HDR on in the game.. but is it worth it>?. Should I?.. will it be ok?.. Thanks for the help
(4X AA is as high as the game goes, I know I can go higher in the Nvidia control pannel, will it actually make it look better)

Only the 8800 series nVidia cards can run with both enabled at the same time. I'm pretty sure all of ATI cards can, but with some large performance hits.

How do you already have Test Drive Unlimited for PC? The preorder date got pushed back to March 20, that's when I get mine from EB Games.

I am a tester, thats how I have the game.. and I believe the release date is march 22nd.. Not posative tho..

SO even if I do it in my control pannel it will not run both

Not to big of a deal cuz it still looks AMAZING. I LOVE this game

I agree.. the only thing I really notice with it on is it looks a little bit more blured in the distance.. I like my AA..I wish i could I have both but for the money I saved I am very very happy with my performance.. I only paid $230 shipped for my card!..

well.. I can force it in control panel.. then whats the downfall?... will it run the same as ATI with them both on?..

I think AA is better than HDR, but its a very subjective topic. And talking about ATi, I don't think the X1950pro can have HDR AND AA 8X enabled and still get decent frames in games like fear anyway so its useless that it supports it. I chose the X1950pro because its my 7900GT ATi counterpart.

ok.. I forced 8X AA... and turned on HDR.. looks AMAZINg.. I see it alot in the headlights.. good. lost about 5-7 fps..

Even if you force AA in the control panel, your card can't do both at the same time. I don't know which setting overrides the other but I think it's safe to assume the game settings override the driver ones because you see the HDR effects.

hmm.. well I can definatly see that AA is on.. even tho the game says its off.. it makes a huge diffrence when its on compared to when its off.. And I see the same diffrence when I click HDR on and off when im forcing AA.. hmm.. well. i am going to stick with the regular AA. nothing to fancy, game still looks ballin!

I would do the download, but I much preffer to have it on a disc, and I put my preorder in with EB in January. My current computer meets requirements, but the demo ran horribly choppy, so I'm rushing my new build to have it ready in time.

I agree. I REALLY REALLY wish I had a hard copy form them.. I have a hard copy I made but I want a box and book.. The hard copy comes with a huge poster showing where everything is on the map.. I have a perfect place on my wall right in front of my desk for that.. But now I have to look at a stupid PDF of it!.. GRRR
