ht link?

I'm a bit new to ocing... I got my 3800+ to 2.85GHz and it seems pretty stable and hasn't crashed yet.

but I was reading somewhere on this forum that the ht link shouldn't pass 1000MHz but when I ran CPU-Z it gave me a reading of like 1500MHz...I was a little worried so I recently put it down to stock which is 1000MHz. The temp wasn't a problem, never went passed 50°C. I'm not sure what the ht link on my mobo is, I'm assuming its 1000MHz.

does anyone have any input? can I put it back up to 2.85GHz... or should I be safe at stock? or is there a way to lower the ht link to around 1000MHz?

thanks

Yeah, you probably saw my thread on it, with it that high go into bios and you will see the ht multiplier at 5x change it to 4x

Edit, yes you can put it back to 2.8Ghz just drop the ht multiplier and also in CPUz check what your ram is running at (mhz) if your new to OCing before you know it your ram will be running 1Ghz....but you can fix that by messing around with the htt multiplier...

all I can adjust is:

HT voltage regulator
HT link width
HT drive strength
HT receiver ctrl
HT PLL control

You want to lower the HT from 5x, to 4x. You can have the HT link above 1000Mhz, but I wouldnt go much beyond it, as you dont gain much and it increases the chance for instability.

I would think 1500+ would be a strain and possible overheat? mines at like 1050 after dropping the multiplier to 4x
