HTPC on a budget

you don't have to be mean,
dont be so sensitive, if you put yourself out there with such confidence you should be prepared to be shot down with the same confidence. Don't spit out your dummy over it.

not everybody knows everything. yes, in case you didn't know, that means you don't know everything.
on the contrary, i knew you didn't know. Thats why i corrected you. Would you rather i hadn't?

$125 for a dual core processor is a VERY good deal.
do doubt, but its still 3 times to expensive for his needs. Heck a x2 3800 is great deal for what you get... but its still overkill for the task.

next time you know something, and someone else doesn't... don't get so irritable about it.
if this was our first run in fade2green then i would employ a little more tact. But it isn't, and so i didn't.

lol its ok though, you probably don't have many friends that you can depend on anyways.. no wonder you act like this.
not even going to dignify that with a responce

its called OCD lol
if i was to give it a name, arrogance would be closer. But still off the mark ;)

i took psychology last year, i would know.
sure, 17 years old, a couple of psych class and your Sigmund himself

yea, he CONSTANTLY thinks hes the best.
i dont think i'm the best, there are plenty of people who have corrected me, including the the goeffs, dragons, and et al.

overclock.net uses rep points and nobody ever argues like this lol
do you need a number next to your name to before people will listen to you?

computerforum just uses post count which we all know isn't very effective.
post count means nothing and never did, ecsept to a few people how care

I as well would recommend a Pentium D 805, 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 RAM, and a video card along the lines of an x1300 or 7300.
and you as well, would be giving bad recommendations. Sure it would make a good system, but its all to much.

btw everyone else i talked to thought the dual core was a good idea as well.
you talked to me, and i didn;t think it was.

media pc = videos, music, pictures, correct?
yep

well what if he wants to convert music or video? dual core = win
agreed, but he want be doing these kinds of tasks with a htpc. He's not encoding a dvd, hes not converting music (not that this is hugely demanding). He is watching and recording TV.
He could watch one channel, record another, and burn a dvd all at the same time and that celeron wouldn;t flinch. The encoding is handled on the tuner card, but i feel i'm repeating myself

not to mention its still extremely cheap for any processor...
its cheap for what you get, its expensive for what he needs

hard drive size will definitely matter.. 200gb at least. as i said, preferably two drives.
agreed.

can we stop the bickering or take it to off topic?
i feel that we have moved passed that point. Feel free to open a new thread, i will not post within it to avoid a repeat. To avoid you recieving bad advice i will be sure to get some of the "users with high rep points" to check in on it and dispell the crap.

fade2green: feel free to move this to PM's if you want.
