Htpc

I am going to start using my spare PC as a HTPC.

It has 1gb of Ram, 7900GS, and a Pentium 4 @ 3.4GHz and an AverMedia TV Tuner.

What else do I need for it to be a HTPC?

Is the PC complete, such as optical drives, hard drives, motherboard, etc? If so, then thats all you need, you just need to be able to connect it up to an external display for it to be considered an HTPC really.

It needs be to very quiet and blend in with your other home theater components. You should look for desktop style HTPC cases ad well as some quiet heatsinks. Maybe a Zalman 8700 as HTPC cases are usually low clearance. Get a aftermarket heatsink for the graphics card too. And as you'll probably not need the power, see if you can downclock/undervolt that power hungry CPU.

Well you don't need those parts or to do that, although it would help and make it blend in better.

Hmm..
I went out to a few stores today, to see if I can get an alternative to the Apple TV, which I've been looking at.

Since the Apple TV doesnt replace anything in a home theater, I may try both. If I can get the HTPC to work as it is, I'll give it a go.

But I really like the feature on the Apple TV where I can buy/rent and then download SD/HD movies from a big library.

Thanks.
