Huge Huge Huge Problem

Hi Everyone...

So I had a PC that my dad bought me in January 30th 2010... it's been a week since this problem was persisting...

My Computer is a Gateway DX4300... the PC had too much viruses, so I've decided to format the hard disk with the Windows 7 Setup CD. while it's formatting, suddenly, we had an electricity shut down, and the computer went off... When the electricity came back, I tried to start it and there's a step saying : Setup.....

Then an error pops up saying that Windows Setup has encountered a problem. Restart the computer and restart the setup... Tried to do it and it gave me the same error everytime......


I've spended $999.98 + taxes ... Ive sent it to ''BUREAU EN GROS''... or in United States or Toronto, ''Staples''... they can repair it, but it'll cost me over 279$ to format my hard disk and I don't want to spend all that money because I need it to buy some school stuffs :S.... What can I do to solve the problem? Thanks in advance !

OH... TO INFORM U GUYS, IVE TRIED RESTARTING AND PRESSING FROM F1 TO F12 EACH TIME I RESTARTED THE PC, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS :S

The BIOS key is often DEL. $279 to format a disk is insulting and disgusting. Where i want to work charges $88.0 for a desktop and covers the first hour of work!

Anyway, insert the CD, boot into the BIOS and change the boot order so that the CD/DVD drive is before the HDD. Boot from the CD and format the sucker yourself.
 
You may consider a different disk. You can't act like a power out has no chance of frying a part. If that happened we'll need to figure out which part it is. Bit first try your disk in a different computer and try a different disk in your computer.
 
I agree with Linkin. $279 to fix a computer is a rip off. Spend a little more and you can get a whole new computer.

Learn your lesson and make backups of important data in the future. Buy an external hard drive or flash drive that can hold over 8 gigabytes and copy important data over at least once every two weeks.
 
From a Gateway manual,

"During startup, press Fn+F12 to open the boot menu.
The boot menu is where you can select which
device to start from, such as the hard drive or an
optical disc."

What key Fn is I have no idea - Maybe on a Gateway keyboard
 
From what I can remember, to access Gateway computer's boot menu, it's either Esc or F10... Chances are, you're getting that error message because Windows setup is trying to continue on with the installation, but if all the files from the Windows CD didn't copy over, it's just going to do nothing so try this:

1. Turn on the computer and when you see the Gateway splash screen, hit Esc or F10 numerous times (you may have to try this a couple times to figure out which key boots you into the boot menu).
2. If done correctly, you'll come to a menu that allows you to choose what to boot off of. At that point, open up your CD drive and insert the Windows 7 Setup CD and close the drive. Select to boot off the CD/DVD drive.
3. Depending on the setup, it may display, "To boot off CD, press any key..." which at that point, press any key to boot off of it. That or it may just automatically start booting off the CD.
4. If all done correctly, it should get you back to the starting point of reinstalling Windows on your computer.

Try all that and let me know how it works!
 
if it just won't boot off the dvd anymore, i'd plug the hdd into another computer and wipe it, then put it back into the system and reinstall windows again.

there is no reason i know of that it would not boot off your dvd anymore to let you re-format
