huge usage on the hdd problem

Hello, im quite new to this forum, well forums overall but i am very angry at this problem. Seeing that i have checked for the total amount of GB used in my program files, which equaled to only 126GB, and not much in other folders as much of my storages are on a portable hdd, still i only have 63GB free out of 450GB.

I'm not that good with computers but have a sound understanding. I am looking for any help or tips to why this is the case and how i can fix it. I have already had a look around but all the steps i have done so far are fairly simply, for eg Disk Cleanup and removing temporary, as well as setting the amount of Gb to be used for backup. This so far has saved me 50Gb, but i am not completely satisfied yet, as i wonder where the other 250GB lies.

your time and help is much appreciated.

I do not know if you have Windows 7. If you are please do the following:

Left click Start
Right click "Computer"
Left click "Manage"
Left click "System protection"

Left click the "Configure..." next to "Configure restore settings, manage disk space, and delete restore points."

See how much of your hard drive space is being used by the System Restore feature. I would recommend you do not use more than 11 gigabytes for System Restore.

Tank how big is the disk usage for your system restore?
Also one more question...do you have 1 or more partitions on the HDD?

Cheers!

Stars, you have effectively just spammed the site by quoting that guys, so again, i would remove that if i were you.

I would suggest the missing space is accounted to a recovery partition.
