HX520W, Strong enough?

Long story short, my Type-R 580 died. Fans flicker from it and there are unhealthy noises coming from it and it refuses to load, so I'm getting rid of it, and getting a Corsair HX520W PSU.

I ran outervision's PSU calculator and I'm okay (rec, 514w). I planned all my eventual upgrades and assumed that an X2900XT uses as much as power as an 8800GTX (is this safe to assume they will be around equal).

I have read PSU101, but still am not fully understanding of the whole 12V, 3.3 and amps etc. I will read it in more detail to try and understand, but is it safe to assume that my system (see below) could handle it?

E6400 (may upgrade to E6600) {non-overclocked}
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
4GB Corsair DDR2 PC2-6400
X1900XT (upgrading to X2900XT)
3 x SATA HDDs, 3 x IDE

I appreciate your help,
- kyle.

It'll do very well on your system and should handle the X2900 with ease but I'm not sure how much the R600 cards consume.

when you are using top of the line; no holds $$$ video cards why not choose a PSU in the same manner

I would sooner get the HX 620 watt

I plan on getting the X2900XT when the price drops a bit heh. I won't be doing upgrades for quite a while after that. I ran the Pro version of extreme outervision's PSU calculator, here's my results with all my due upgrades (Please note that I assumed an 8800GTX utilizes the same amount of power than as X2900XT uses):

System Type: Dual Processor
Motherboard: High End - Desktop
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2130 MHz Allendale
CPU Utilization (TDP): 85% TDP

RAM: 4 Sticks DDR2 SDRAM
Video Card 1: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX

SATA HDD: 3 HDDs

DVD/CDRW Combo Drive: 1 Drive
DVD-RW/DVD+RW Drive: 1 Drive

Sound Blaster - All Models: Yes

USB: 6 Devices
IEEE-1394 FireWire: 1 Device

Fans
Regular: 3 Fans 120mm;

Keyboard and mouse: Yes

System Load: 100 %

Recommended Wattage: 502 Watts

Recommended Amperage:
+3.3V +5V +12V
7.2 A 18.7 A 32.0 A

___

As you can see I fit well within the A range. I'll run it later with an E6420 (conroe, not allendale) to see if it gets any higher heh.

A HX520 would handle that system with an 8800GTX easily, but there's still no definitive info on the power consumption of the X2900XTX. Given that these new cards will use a new 8pin PCI-E connector, as well as a 6-pin PCI-E (i.e. POTENTIAL maximum of 300W vs the 185W TDP of the 8800GTX), it's safe to assume the power consumption will be significantly higher than the 8800GTX.

Having said that, I would be surprised if the HX520 wouldn't be enough, but the HX620 would be the safer choice.

I just don't have the cash for a 620, so I went for the 520. As the X2900, I may very well get the XL version instead!
