Hybernate and Sleep

What is the difference in these two?

I would like to get this computer to sleep or hibernate after a few minutes of not using it but comes back on when the mouse is moved (I think that maybe sleep).

ok, neither will do come back on when mouse is moved. Hybernation is basically turn off computer but it will save everything you have running at the time that you hybernate. it takes time to come back on, but not as long as when you shut down and restart.
Sleep puts your computer to sleep, D, basically it does not turn off the computer so still uses a bit of power, but it will use so little that on a laptop if you put it to sleep could last about a week, with a good battery, obviousely if not using. it comes out of sleep straight away into the log in screen, there is no start up or anything.
In both cases you will have to press the on button, or if its a desktop you could use the keyboard to turn it on.
i have a laptop always use sleep. and my choice would be sleep

as was said, you wont wake up by moving mouse, unless you have the mobo configured for it.

sleep is a lighter power saving mode that suspends everything into your memory, shutting off the gpu, cpu and usb ports as well, and just leaves the ram powered up

hibernate basically takes everything in your ram, writes it to the hard disk and shuts the entire computer down, however upon pushing the power button, the machine resumes where the system was hibernated

^ right

It's especially useful to know the difference between them if you have a laptop, since Sleep is only a low-power mode, while Hibernation shuts the computer all the way off. If you have a fast hard drive, there's nearly no reason to use sleep, IMO.

i use sleep on my CF-T4 as it can sleep for effinging days on battery, however its set to auto hibernate after 2 hours, i think standby mode will last at least two days tho.
