I am going to be building a computer for the first time

haha c4c's list sorry i thought it would say that because i pressed reply under c4c's comment, i just want to learn how a computer is assembled but also it's going to be my computer hopefully for a long time so i want to try to make something really nice However, i'm not trying to overclock it (yet anyway)

You can always cut back and save a few, so removing the CPU cooler and extra case fans. I also noticed I didn't choose RAM that could run in dual channel, and an older Z87, so I updated the list.

There should be a button that says "edit list" and you can remove whatever you want. Another way to save money is removing that SSD, though boot times and program startup will be a bit slower.

huh?

are you saying a 750ti wont play battlefield?

youll get 50fps @1080p

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7764/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-750-ti-and-gtx-750-review-maxwell/14

If you read that it says those are singleplayer benches, and states that multiplayer is going to be about half that. 25FPS is not what you want.

Also ninja, if they're not going to be overclocking, there's no point to suggest a K version chip unless the price is the same or lower than a non K version.

I would think more toward the future on the build if you plan to overclock then get the z97 board and i5 4690k that will be plenty. Also try to stretch to the best Gpu you can get something like a r9 280x will be perfect for battlefield 4 1080p. It isn't much fun playing anything below 40-50fps, 30fps will make you ill . The r9 280x will hold 60fps no problem and give you a better experience. If you cannot quite make it a 270x should do well.

thank you for all the help

i ordered all the pieces except a couple were out of stock so i got an antec 900 and an asus z87-pro so i hope it works lol

Bad choice in case. They're so old and out of date. I can't believe Antec still makes them.

the case looks pretty bad ass to me and it's just a computer case so it doesn't really get outdated but pcpartpicker did say that the motherboard might need a bios update so i will have to figure out how to do that

one of the things i don't understand though is that i have these three blue led sickle coolermaster fans but the case already has fans in it so are the coolermaster fans better or quieter? why would i want these extra fans

Well hopefully you haven't bought the mobo yet! Here's an updated list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HRMB7P

The Z97 board shouldn't need to be flashed prior to use.
I decreased the power supply to one that'll fit your wattage and removed the extra stuff you have/don't need. It's also been color coordinated :)

I would replace the existing fans with those sickleflows just to add depth and customization. The performance is about the same I believe.

Edit: The mobo will need to be flashed, but can be done so with a USB drive.

lol well i did order it already but now i'm getting scared about updating the bios so please explain to me exactly what i'm going to be doing with the z87-pro

also is there a difference between a "4th generation core" and a "new 4th generation core"?

here are my 2 guesses:

a) Because the z87-pro does not support "new 4th generation cores" I will need to use my laptop do format a usb stick to fat32, download the things it says to at http://www.asus.com/microsite/2014/MB/New_4th_gen_Intel_processor_compatibility/#top, and then attempt the flashback thing

b) I will be able to turn on the computer and use windows to update it

PS I am terrified of a and thank you for responding so quickly I really appreciate it

Well option A isn't available for the Z87-A... So a windows-based flash is then only way to update. I'm not sure if you can purchase a supported processor to flash the mobo at all, but Amazon, will allow you to return the processor after you flash the mobo. I just clicked unsatisfied with product and they paid for return shipping (I have Prime).

So unfortunately, this is one of those times that older formats don't work. Depending on where you purchased the mobo, I'd definitely look into returning it and getting the Z97-A instead.

Oops, you're correct. If you even look at my post I got confused. I think I must have combined "Z87" and the "-A" model from the Z97..

Bios flaahback is quite easy and Asus has a very detailed list of instructions. Shouldn't be too hard :)
