I am having problem with my computer blue screen error

I wasn't sure where to put this thread at. if it don't belong here you can go head and move it. sorry.


all day today I didn't have internet so I reset the button the router and then it still didn't work so I shut down my computer and then reset the internet then started my computer all of the sudden I got this blue screen error, I tried to use safe mode and it still took me to the blue screen error. Anybody know how I can fix this? I don't want to reformat my computer because I will loose all the pictures and songs. and it was fine yesterday. Please someone help me.
 
have you tried again? sometimes computers are just like that. If all else fails, try hitting DEL when the computer boots to go into the BIOS, and there should be an option for "load optimised defaults" and that is the option you are looking for. then hit F10 to save and exit.

i just did what you told me to do and it didn't do anything just show up the blue screen error. i can't even do safe mode. this sucks.

nope. that is not what happened. i didn't have the internet yesterday morning so i reset the button on the back of the netgear router then still didn't work, then i tried it again and then shut down the computer for few hours then turn it back on the internet still didn't work so i tried the reset button again and then restart the computer then all of the sudden i got this blue screen error that I didn't even know I had viruses. I can't even do safe mode at all. because the same thing happens again.
 
i was wondering if it is ok to use this dell cd that came with my inspiron laptop computer for my desktop computer? it is drivers and utilities cd. I can't find any cds that came with my dell desktop computer. Maybe I just didn't get any cds with my desktop computer I can't remember. Because I had my desktop computer since 2006.

BSODs (Blue Screen of Death) are not always from viruses, in fact it is fairly rare that it is due to a virus, it is almost always to do with a software or hardware problem

Your desktop didn't come with a CD because it has the "CD" in the computer, as a part of the hard drive. Hit F10 I think it is (it will say somewhere when you turn the computer on what it is) to enter setup. I can't remember what it is called, it is something like Dell recovery and it allows you to repair your computer. Will have a little search for what it is called and how you get to it.

Specifically what Dell desktop is it that you have, as in what model?

it is dell dimension E310 desktop and it is XP Window. I don't what model is it how do I find out? sorry I don't know much about computer.

that is what I was referring to, it will guide you through how to use the restore partition (section) of the hard drive to hopefully fix your computer

because it isn't starting up, if there isn't anything on there that you need, it isn't a problem, if there are things such as photos, videos etc that you can't get again or don't already have a back up of, there are ways to back them up without using the computer, so don't worry just yet :)

What blue screen error are you getting? It's possible that doing a restore will not help. If you can see the numbers on the screen when the blue screen happens post them here.

I agree, however as it bsods before getting into a windows environment, not a whole lot can be done, unless it is hardware related, other than try a restore

True but I would try to test the RAM at the very least first. Also, if there were any hardware changes (new cards installed, etc) then I would suggest removing whatever new was added.

yes that would be a smart move.

It may also be an idea to order an ubuntu disc or download/burn one should the advice given thus far not solve the problem. Ubuntu is another operating system, like windows, based on Linux. However, you can use it straight from the disc. This would let you see better what is wrong with your computer and if it is just windows messing you about. You can also then use that to backup anything should you find it easier to simply start fresh.

Because Ubuntu is a Linux distro, it is free as Linux is freeware. You can get it in several ways from here:

ok i started my computer and kept pressing F8 till that came up I click on last known good configuration then press enter. then i got this blue screen error again. on the blue screen error it said.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed if this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

if problems contine, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restard your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

that is all it said on my blue screen error. i can't even do safe mode because the blue screen pop up again.
 
If you have a windows cd try booting from it and entering the recovery console. Once there type chkdsk /r and see if that finds anything, it will take a while to run.
  1. Make sure the computer is set to BOOT from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. If this has not yet been done you will need to configure the computer to boot from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer.
  3. When you receive the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM.
  4. When you receive the "Welcome to Setup" message, press R to start the Recovery Console.
  5. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you have to use from the Recovery Console.
  6. When you are prompted, type the administrator password, and then press ENTER.Note: If you do not have one, just press ENTER.
  7. At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r and then press ENTER.
  8. Once it has cmopleted, type exit, and then press ENTER to quit Recovery Console.

i don't have any cd that came with my desktop computer. not that i can remember of. because I got my desktop computer back in 2006 but I was thinking about using this drivers and utilities cd for my desktop but that cd came with my laptop. but i already did put that cd in and it didn't do anything.

the drivers and utulities won't do anything. All that is is a disc with programs for your computer
