I am thinking of buying a new hd and making a raid 0

I am going to have to buy a new hd soon anyways and i have a few questions about raid 0: 1. Do the hard drives have to be of the same model? (I am assuming they have to be the same type Ntsc/Fat32) 2. How do I go about creating a raid 0 once I have the 2nd hd?

They both need to be the same size, not necessarily the same brand. So you need for example 2-250 gb drives. So that would give you 1 drive at 500gb. Once you enable raid in the bios, you need to enter the raid utility to actually setup raid. Once that is done you need to do a fresh install of the operating system.

ok but some of the hd space on my hard disk went missing

I am not talking about backups/registry etc. It seems to be a partition that i can not detect or scan for with any program i am aware of. This is not a problem because i have plenty of space i am just wondering if it will cause a problem with the raid 0?

Anytime you set up raid 0 you need to do a fresh install of the OS. No if's and's or but's about it. You have to start from scratch. You say you have a partition that you can't see or scan? Most likely its a recovery partition. What kind of computer do you have? Custom built or store bought. Are you sure your motherboard even supports raid?

i dont think its a recovery partition

there used to be one of those along time (several restores ago) but i deleted it thinking the space would be relocated back into the main part. I later found out this was untrue but there is more space missing than that entire partition. It is a store bought gateway fx7020 http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Shared/4006254R/4006254Rsp2.shtml pc from best buy. I have been researching weather or not my mb will even allow it i am not sure as of yet. Redoing everything is not a huge problem for me i was just woundering if that missing space is going to cause it not to work (assuming i find out my mb will let it work at all.)
