Try Comodo for a firewall. It and Jetico got the only "excellent" designations from Virus Bulletin for free versions. I haven't tried their free antivirus program,I use Eset. Spyware Blaster is a good anti spyware tool and as long as you don't mind manually updating its free. I haven't had anything on my PC for the 2-3 yrs I'v used it. http://www.comodo.com/products/free_products.html http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Well, if you are talking about "internet security" packages, I have always liked Panda, Bitdefender, and ZoneAlarm. Usually the one I myself would buy if I wasn't using a free version.
DON'T get Kaspersky, i got a 180 day trial and for the first 4 months or so it was fine, then after that it started thinking it was okay to use 100% of my processor etc. So i shoved it a boot and switched to AVG and i've never looked back
