I've been using a off brand digital camera for years, and have always wanted a brand name camera. So I decided to treat myself with some tax money I got back. I asked some of the guys on my chevy forum what to look for in a good digital camera. I was just looking for a good point and shoot camera. They told me to just make sure it was a Canon. So I go to my local Walmart (yes I know...), and start looking at the different Canon models. I told myself My budget was going to be about $150 total. Well the model Canon that I wanted just sold out (even the display model was sold). The next model up was $180, and I just couldn't push myself to spend the extra money. So I ended up buying the Canon PowerShot A470 in orange (only color they had). This is the most entry level point and shot they offer. But it was a huge upgrade from what I had been using. For $89.99 I really couldn't complain about the price of the camera. I used the rest of my budget money to buy a 8GB SDHC card, a camera case, and batteries.
So far I'm pleased with the performance of the camera. Nice 2.5" screen, 7.1MP, 3.4x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom, easy operation are things I like about the camera. Only thing I wish it had was a built in image stabilizer.
The real test for it will be friday night. I plan to take some pics at my favorite club and my old digital camera took the worst dark room pictures. Hopefully this one will do alot better.
