I bought the wrong version of windows XP

and I already registered it. Galdang it! I bought the 32 bit
version without realizing it. Now I can't install my 64 bit
software.

How can I sell this on ebay? I already have windows xp 32 bit,
I sure don't need two of them. Do I have to call microsoft
to make the change? Will they even do that?

Evil, it's all evil, the torture they put us through to buy or
sell our software.
 
i don't see ya selling at ebay with it registered.
I have called several years ago but the circumstances
was different. my motherboard took a dump. i replaced
it and called then they made the key good for the new
computer. Yes, call them up and explain. they can
kill the key. maybe they will work with ya on the right ver.

oh no, I have to call Microsoft? Oh god.....

ok I will try it, but they would not even answer a question
I e-mailed them once about where to friggin buy it!

You know what. I'm going to talk to newegg first, because
they had no indication anywhere on any of the packaging
that it was 32 bit. If they had done that, I would have known
not to even open it.

So maybe I'm not the brightest for not being totally sure
about it, but they really needed to label it as 32 bit!

I am so pissed.

at least I'm almost smart enough to successfully build
my own computer.

no I'm not a spammer, I just built a computer. See it on the
desktop computers forum.

And no I don;t think microsoft is "friendly to help."
I will just have to slug my way through it.
 
well newegg is trying to get away with saying that I bought
the "standard" operating system, and that if it was 64 bit,
it would say 64 bit.

Nowhere on any web site or label or package does it say
either "32 bit" or "standard operating system."

Now they are saying they have to do more "research"
and call me back. heh.

I looked at the microsoft customer service site,
and it says on there that they will take software back
for 45 days after you buy it, except for just about any
kind you could buy: no oem, no pre-bundled, no anything.
very crafty.

I am probably SOL.
 
If you have to call microsoft or newegg here's the first thing to do since the software is opened...ask for a manager. I guarantee the person who answers will tell you no. You will have to be very persistent. I'm not saying be rude because that only helps at a store (to get rid of you they sometimes give in) ont he phone they don't have to actually see you face to face. It's a business proposition, tell them that you will quit doing business with newegg.com or microsoft and hopefully they will give you a store credit upon receipt of the software you have and maybe microsoft can deactivate your product key or something like that. It's worth a shot of course, you don't want to be out all that cash.

Also, if the manager says no, ask to talk to there manager...the higher you go, the more pull they'll have and the more likely they'll give in to keep you as a customer.
