well i bought this gateway laptop with vista preintalled. I need windows 200 as well on the computer so i tried installing it but vista wouldnt let me. In a fit of rage i completely deleted the partition with vista on it, and let windows 2000 format and install on it. well that was a bad idea. currently i have a recovery drive partition, and when i deleted the vista c: partition, the recovery partition got the c: letter. i dont know if this has anything to do with it. but now when i try to install vista or 2000 it doesnt work, i keep getting a disk read error , and another error while installing vista about boot problems. so my computer sits there with nothing on it, sooo any suggestions on how i should fix this problem? i dont think its a good idea to delete the recovery partition, but i will if i have to. also the boot manager tells me that the fill system32\winload.exe is corrupt or missing.

Ok, this is why I don't buy prebuilt computers, and opt to build my own. First of all calm down. Then go and find that Vista install disk. I don't know about where you live, but in Australia vendors of prebuilt computers are required by law to provide an authentic Operating System CD. After you have both Vista and windows 2000 installation disks in you hand, you should go ahead and pop the Windows 2000 disk into you drive and let it format and partition your hard drive however way you like it to be.
Then after you have finished installing windows 2000, pop the Vista disk in and install that.
Now you have a dual boot machine.

Rule of thumb, if you want to dual boot, make sure you install the older operating system first, then the newer one.

wow...you need rage management...;). that was kinda a bad idea. what you should have done is created a new partition to put MS 2000 on.
