Wireless or wired connectivity? If wireless, delete the existing network connection profile for your home network and reset it back up.

Go to your router settings, and find out your IP Address range, then go to Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, Change Adapter Settings, Right click your adapter and select properties, Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and Click Properties, then select Use the Following IP Address and type in an IP Address from the range your router allows...so if you are allowed between 192.168.0.1-254, then Change the last number to a number greater than or equal to two, and less than or equal to 254. (Do not set it to .1 as the router may use this address). If you have other machines or phones on the router, its best to go with something like .20 which is out of the way of automatically assigned IP Addresses. Subnet Mask should be 255.255.255.0 and your default gateway is the number you typed in to access your router settings, e.g. 192.168.0.0.

Your DNS Server Address will probably be the same as your router default gateway.

now it says that I'm connected but i still can't access the internet. the logo for the internet signal doesn't have that green color that indicates that i have internet but it says that I'm connected to my router.... oh and i can't find my default gateway, is it different for every laptop????? if so how do i go about and finding the default gateway?

Delete your previous Wireless Connection in Control panel > Network and Internet > Network and sharing centre then from the left - click manage wireless adapters

Make sure you re-connect to your Wireless network, this time with the correct password
