I can't connect through IP

Since I have a router, all online games/programs that require to connect via IP and msn voice chat don't work anymore

I've tried forwarding ports, and creating virtual servers, but it still doesn't work.

But the biggest problem is, remote desktop doesn't work either.

this is how I configured my router:

Port Forwarding:
Port%20forwarding%202.jpg

Virtual Server:
virtual%20server%202.jpg

I really don't know much about port forwarding or virtual server, so maybe I did something wrong here.

When I don't connect through my router, but straight to the internet, everything works just fine.

I also have the option to disable NAT on my router, what will happen if I do this.

I'm not quite understanding why you have 1, 2, and 3 on your forwarded list... You're leaving your machine quite open for attacks...

Check what ports need to be forwarded and if they are TCP or UDP. I doubt it, but having both enabled could be a problem.

Remove everything from virtual server. You don't need that.

oh, I thought forwarding every port, didn't matter since I still got a firewall installed. I thought forwarding every port is the same as using no router.

but I've done what you've said, and I'll test it tomorrow on school, see if remote desktop works.

But does anyone knows what will happen if I disable NAT on my router?

It's still not working :(

I only forwarded port 3389 TCP & UDP on my router to my local IP and it's still not working.

does anyone know what I did wrong or did I forget something?

yes it would help do disable. If you disable NAT, the firewall thats causing the problem will be gone...turn it off..like u said, you have a firewall installed. Just turn it off it you want to.

There ARE risks in this though...you wont be as protected. Just leave your firewall running. (Assuming its not WINDOWS firewall..then you might think twice... )

If it IS windows firewall, download Zone Alarm Free from the zone alarm website. awsome firewall.

Well im confused as to what happened there...but a static ip just means an unchanging one....so put whatever your computer's was. (192.168.2.102??).

When I fill in the fields like this: (don't know what Hop count means, but it needs a value from 1-255)

Static%20IP.JPG

I get this:

Invalid.JPG

So I changed destination LAN IP to that:

Static%20IP%202.JPG

but then I still got no internet.

Ok, I think we need to back up. You said:

Does that mean that it was working and then it didn't without the NAT? Or something else?

As for setting the static IP on the router, it should be set to the IP that your ISP assigned to you. The only problem with this is that if your ISP changes your IP in the future, (which can happen) then your router won't connect until you change the IP again. This is why Dynamic IP is sooooo much better. Hope this clears some things up...

You have a PUBLIC ip and a LOCAL ip.

to find your LOCAL ip, type this in a cmd prompt
ipconfig

to find your PUBLIC ip go to
www.whatismyip.com

BOTH addresses can change, but what you should care about is what you can control. You can assign your computers mac address (cant change) to a specific LOCAL ip. Thereofre your computer will always have the same LOCAL ip. So then you write in the table your LOCAL ip, it will always be right.

Another thing, make sure you only use ONE firewall. I would recomend the router firewall. Turn off the winxp personal one, and any software your running doing the same thing. (it screws a lot of stuff up)

When port forwarding only forward the SPECIFIC port required for operation of that program. Anything else could leave you open for bad stuff to happen.

my local IP is 192.168.2.100, but then my router says it's an invalid IP and it should end with 0 instead of 100.

and when I fill in 192.168.2.0, my internet still doesn't work.

Whatever it is your doing here...you shouldn't be....this isnt what you want to do i wouldnt think.

See if you can find out how to put your computer in the DMZ. Look around your config page for DMZ and put your computer in it. This will disable the firewall on the router too.

If you cant find out how to do this...maybe go back and try to open ports again. BUT..check to see if you are using the right ip. go to start-->run-->and type CMD and put "ipconfig /all" look for the ip address of your computer and make sure its what you think it is. ALSO, make sure there isnt a checkbox somewhere on the port opening page that makes your entry valid. For example, on mine, you have to check a box that says "activate" or something like that; typing it in isnt enough.

Also please post the make and the exact model of your router to I can look into it.

Good Luck.;)

My router is an Edimax BR-6104WB(G) wireless broadband router (but my computer isn't using a wireless connection, but just a cable).

Hardware Version: Rev. A
Boot Code Version: 1.0
Runtime Code Version: 2.65

I can't find DMZ anywhere, these are all the options I have:

router%20config.JPG

the router firewall is already disabled.

but on the routers retail box it says: Provides virtual server / DMZ. so maybe that's the same?

but I don't see it,

virtual%20server%203.JPG

and I too have a checkbox to enable port forwarding or virtual server, but they're both checked. and I know I'm using the right IP address, I configured it myself, and it says so in cmd.

I now only have port forwarding enabled, forwarded port 3389 to my local IP, disabled my windows, mcafee and router firewall and it's still not working.

I just noticed something...in your first post in the first picture, you have your XBOX and your remote desktop forwarded to 192.168.2.102....but just a few posts back you said your local IP is 192.168.2.100.

Do you have the wrong IP typed in for port forwarding then??

By the way please turn off the static routing thing you were playing with a few posts back aswell.

Here is a very good website that will show you how to do this with your exact router model.

Scroll down a bit at the beginning...dont mind the bitTorrent stuff...when you get to the first Text box type 3389(the port used for RDP) and in the second type 192.168.2.100 (your local IP)

Then, you can easily follow the instructions below and they will be customized for your situation.:D

Static routing is already turned off, since I can only enable it when I disable NAT.

and I didn't forward to the wrong IP, port 3074 is for Xbox live, and I forwarded all the other ports to my ip (.100)

right now I have forwarded port 88 and 3074 to my xbox and 3389 to my pc.

oh, and you didn't post a link in your last post to the website you were talking about.
