I have looked everywhere now and I cant find any help on the internet or from anyone, I am wanting to learn about servers and have windows server 2000, through ethernet cable, i want to connect to a computer (running windows 8 developer edition, supports domains!) so i can log on on the win8 computer using a user name that will run off the w2k server computer. I have looked everywhere, everything confuses me, even the win2k help. I have managed to set win2k server up onto a workgroup and be able to transfer files and that is it.

Please could someone give me idiotproof instructions? Much appreciated :)

win2k is very similar to win2k3. just find guides about win2k3 supporting what you want.

I dont understand any of it though! I have spent hours googleing help and none of it makes sense, I am worried to fiddle about with it because you cant undo any active directory stuff (aparantly)

Try bing.com
query 'using w2k server'
Seen a lot there but don't have a clue either.
Good luck.

20 seconds of google work

For a full dns name you usually use a domain name (like company.com) but you switch the top lvl domain name (.com) with .local. But that's just a best practice. Not specifically needed.

edit: the website i posted above has loads of info on this kinda of stuff. Very complete tutorials.
