I can't see my CD/RW and CD/DVD in My Computer

I have a Sony Vaio PCV RX741. I just did I reinstall of the OS (WIN XP Home edition). Now when I go into My Computer I can't see the CD Roms. If I go into device manager I have yellow ! on both drives. The drives are

HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8320B
HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8160b

When I go into Add remove hardware for the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8320B I get the message "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device (Code 41)"

When I go into Add remove hardware for the HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8160b I get the message "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (In the Regestry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19)

I've been to Sony's support page and down loaded the drivers that should fix this but nothing has worked. I'm sick and tired of all the other sites that download a driver search program only to ask for $30 after they tell you you need drivers. I should get what I need from Sony shouldn't I?

At this point it almost may be easier to reload windows again and hope whatever's going on would fix itself. It does sound like a software issue more than a hardware, assuming you actually loaded Windows by CD :P

If this isn't possible for some reason, confirm the drives show up in the bios and will boot. Look for other drives, such as chipset/IDE/PCI drivers (typically all in one package). You really shouldn't need any for the CD-ROMs themselves, build in drives work just fine.
