every-single-day i seem to lose my mind with these incompetent computers... how many times do i need to yell "NOW WHAT",,, or 'JUST DO IT' - i can't deal with this anymore. it's never ending.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

i hear mac's are where you go when you're where i'm at :(

but i've never even seen one, it seems like it's another planet? like i'll have to learn everything all over again?

are my mp3's gonna work? .avi's? .exe progs? the list goes on and on... like MS Office, i doubt that'd work? Adobe stuff (photoshop, audition, reader), these games i have..?

i guess i'll just grab one and use both til i get it ironed out

thanks for letting me rant.......... F WINDOWS :boooooooooo:

a trillion dollars worth of technology and all it does is annoy me

Well Any .exe would not work on Mac, mp3 will, you will probably will have to spend a fortune on a new macbook, plus MS office for Macbook, adobe stuff also have to buy new. no games for PC that you currently have will work, only the ones that are compatible but you will most likely have to buy new.

Windows is so much better than Mac, i recommend to you to tell more what the problems that you are having, and if it is general, like speed and stuff, probably have so many programs running at the same time, or installed that computer can't take it.

In this case either delete some programs or do clean install of Windows, will take some time, but will definetely clean your computer of all the stuff that you have on it, and don't need.

Or buy new PC, if you don't have intel Core 2 duo or quad, then you are missing out. Also check your memory, if it is low, ie less than 2GB, then some programs will work very slow, maybe upgrade your computer. more RAM, maybe new processor, and the computer will be faster, and respond to your commands as you say them (or input them)

Hope this helps

i dunno, i've been at this for 12 years now with windows.. it isnt one specific problem or anything like that. my frustration is a huge collection of annoyances. it's like that dripping water torture or whatever just chipping away at my sanity.. i'm just fed up.

if .exe's don't work, then that screws up everything i'm used to. so that's a huge negative. you basically said 'none of your stuff will work, besides the mp3s' :( you say windows is better than mac?? i keep hearing it's the other way around

i format/reinstall windows almost constantly, so it's not clutter. it's not my hardware either, this is a relatively nice setup.

i'm just gonna pick up a mac and see what happens.. gonna finally see what all those mac fans are talking about.

i'm just thinking outloud, thanks for the reply.. i just want to stop yelling at my pc, it's driving me insane.. it's literally one thing after another :(

Mac and OSX have a couple of advantages, but also their disadvantages. You're pretty obviously set on getting one, so I'm not even gonna bother trying to deter you. Windows programs will not work with Macs (Well, OSX technically speaking, but you get my point.) unless there is a compatible format. You can however run windows in a virtual machine I've heard. Which will be much slower than running it the usual way through an install, but will suffice for low end programs that you just can't live without. Speaking of programs, they offer alternatives for many of the usual Office and whatnot, (iWork I believe?) but to my knowledge, Photoshop is still a no-go as well as a handful of others. I'm no expert on the subject, just passing along what I've heard.

My personal opinion though, which is also a bit of crazy paranoia and slight Apple-hate, is that one of these days, the market share of the Macs is going to grow high enough that some hacker-type is going to take notice, and eventually some kind of virus is going to spread like wildfire through their ranks. As far as I've heard/seen, the whole OSX platform is pretty vulnerable to attack, and I think it's only a matter of time before something bad happens on that front.

if you have xp or vista, i seriously recommend installing the windows 7 RC. i had xp before and it used to annoy me or piss me off occasionally. Especially when it crashed, that really pisses me off. But when i installed the 7 RC, my computer was noticeably faster, nicer looking, and most important, NO CRASHING. even for an RC, this is better than the stable versions of XP and Vista. :D

Wrong wrong wrong.

A "Mac" == PC, the hardware is the same design, the CPU's, graphics cards, hard drives etc are all the same as you would find in a normal PC. This means - shock horror - you can run Windows if you really want your programs in ether a dual boot (Boot Camp), or via a virtual machine.

I have been using Windows since about 92ish, and Mac OS since 98ish and Linux since about 97ish

I work in IT for a living and actually can explain the differences in a non biased way. I wrote a bunch of stuff down when people tried to spread misinformation about the differences in the platforms.

It is a long read but I outline a lot of the questions you ask. You can also run Windows apps on a Mac very easily and there are three ways of doing it:

1) Virtual machine

2) Crossover API

3) Boot camp

Make sure your computer is compatible, because by the sound of it you have old computer, and sometimes it is not compatible with 7, i mean some drivers like video driver, and so on.

But do indeed try this, it should be well good. and indeed XP pissed me off some times too. Vista is a bit better at not crashing.

Sorry to be biased, but why buy Mac, when you will be running windows apps..... Xd.

DUDE I have a mac book and it is so sweet with mac you have no worries in the world just nice smooth operation I think you will love it

Well for one if your software is all made for Windows, it won't work on a Mac, you will have to buy Mac compatible versions. By using Boot Camp or other ways that rely on Windows, obviously this isn't fixing your problem since your problem is with Windows. Windows will be the same whether on Mac hardware or PC hardware (which is mostly the same.) I'm not sure what problems you are having so I can't really help. I don't know your computer specs or even the version of Windows you are running. Obviously a newer computer with modern hardware would be better than an older one regardless of the Operating System. If your problem is with Windows itself, I suggest you ask a friend who owns a Mac to see if you could play with their computer. Since most Apple computer use relatively high-end hardware, it would be foolish to buy one without even knowing whether you will like it or not. Most bigger computer stores like Best Buy will have a section with Apple computers, that is a good place to go and fool around with the OS. I'm not sure how Adobe is with transferring licenses from PC to Mac but I doubt they would make you pay for a whole new set just for a platform change.

As a side note, Windows by itself hardly ever crashes, if your computer is slow and crashes a lot, it may be due to hardware failure, too much stuff installed (specifically too many things that run on startup), malware, or a number of problems that could happen with any system.

There are many many reasons. Working in IT I can tell you first hand if I tried to change the app that the payroll department has used for say, 10 years at my job they wouldn't have it. So, if you want to change platforms some applications may not transcend over.

A lot of it comes down to model and preference, and if the Mac fits either there are many benefits that you can get from that.

Well, that too, i would not argue further, as you are a profesional in this area, and i am not. But as i said biased view from my side.

And to other people who said, that Mac would run smoother, why would, i was in the apple store and they were doing something from the virtual XP install, and it was running very very badly. Slow and crashing. So i see no difference between the two, and when you say no worries about getting a virus, wait, and someday someone will make one, and all those "unsecure" mac will get it in full.

SO just stick with windows, unless you don't do any programs, play any good games, and just want it for surfing the net, and basic stuff. Or just wait for Google Chrome OS, it could be just what you need for basics.
