I can't turn off my computer.

When i start my computer there is this sound that it will play. the sound that you get when there is an error. it sounds like someone droped a rock on a bucket.

After the computer is on, i can't turn it off again no matter how many time i click Restart, Turn off the computer just sits and does nothing.

But i did noticed one thing, and it works every time. There is this REGEDIT.EXE in the windows tast manager, it was never there before. If i right click it and click end process and try to turn off the computer, it works.

hmmm...
Though I'm in Linux at the present, I pulled upen regedit.exe in WINE and tried to simulate a Windows reboot, and regedit didn't close. It's obvious that Microsoft purposely made it so Windows couldn't shut down if regedit.exe is running.
Open AUTOEXEC.BAT in Notepad (it's a hidden file in your C:\ drive) and check for anything with regedit.exe in it. If you find it, post it here and I'll tell you if it's safe to delete it.

I can't seems to find AUTOEXEC.BAT in my Local drive C. I checked to show hidden files.

I am runing a search right now. I will post the result tomorrow when i come back. Need to goto sleep now.

Problem fixed. it was caused by NAV. everything is fine after i uninstlalled.

OK. That's good to know...
And now that I think about it, AUTOEXEC.BAT isn't on Windows XP. I also have ME, so that's where I'm getting it from.
