I could use some guidance on a new desktop

I've saved up some cash for building a PC, and I've done some research. I have a rough idea of a build saved away on my hard drive, but before I post that I'd like to see what you guys would suggest for a build.

The ceiling is $1,000, but less is, of course, better (provided there wouldn't be a significant performance drop or anything like that).

This will be used for HD video editing/rendering, but will also replace my current desktop as my primary computer.

Quick Edit: Forgot to mention, the monitor isn't included in the budget, nor are the mouse/keyboard. OS is included in that price, however.

i would go for a base using one of the new intel sandybridge cpu, if you go on to youtube and search intel sandybridge launch, there is a demo of the built in graphic quality of the new sandybridge versus a dedicated gpu card, and the sandybridge is hands down the better quality.
