I have tried install the new 8.9 catyst drivers and it says that the program has stopped working.
first tried opition 1 with the display and CCC package
then download just the display driver
and even tried to install avivo video converter 8.9 and get the same error message.
i also can't uninstall the old 8.8 it's not even in the add/remove programs!
i'm running vista x64 ultimate

I think if you go to the hardware management you could uninstall but i am not exactly sure about that.

i had a similar problem, try deleting ATI.ace under programfiles/ati technologies and try reinstalling CCC

(Back the folder up, just in case!)

Download and install Driver Cleaner. Restart your computer, boot into Safe Mode (press the F8 key before Windows begins the boot process) and run the program. Remove everything related to ATi. Restart, log in and reinstall the latest Catalyst drivers.

tried new drivers 8.10 and same problem. I did delete the Ati.ace and any thing else ati and uninstalled it from the device manager

Follow the steps in my previous post. Even though you used the Catalyst uninstaller to remove the drivers, there could be some crap left over. Just try it. It'll take like five minutes. May not work, but it's worth a shot.

I've always done it this way, and have never had any problems. Download the first option (CCC & Display driver). When downloaded, run it, it will extract the files to C:\Ati unless otherwise specified. When extracted run the program and at some stage it will give you the option to install or uninstall, obviously choose uninstall. You will be given the option to uninstall auto or custom, choose custom and remove everything. When asked, restart the pc. When restarted, go to C:\Ati or wherever you extracted the files earlier and run setup.exe. This should do it.
