I'm trying to remove my hard and what i did was first unistalled it from the device manager then shut it down tried to turn it on and it won't work. I get a message saying stike F1 to retry reboot. now if i put it back in it works....what am i doing wrong.

i wanted to make it and exturnal so thats why i'm removing it.

You don't need to uninstall it from the Device Manager. When removing a physical interior component, just make sure the power is off, then remove the item from the case. In the case of a HDD, unplug both the power and data cables from the drive, remove and screws holding it in place, and pull out the unit. Installing a new one is the same procedure, only in reverse.

Will you have an internal HDD and external HDD? Some systems are quirky with recognizing Operating Systems unless the drive is internal. If you plan on having a drive containing an OS inside the computer and using the external drive for storage, you should be fine.

Imsati that didn't work when i pull it out and try to turn it on it hangs at the bios and then beeps twice and says primary hard disk drive O not found, strike F1 to retry reboot, F2 to run setup utility

And this is not the HDD with my OS on it it just has my music

You have to have a hard drive that is bootable recognized by the system in order for it to work. So if you don't have a hard drive installed with windows on it and have it listed as being bootable in the bios then nothing will happen and you will get that exact same message you saw there.

how do i make it bootable it has windows on it and the bios opitions are Auto or off

do i need to get some sort of drivers so that the bios will reconize it even though it loads up fine if i put that one back in

In the bios the 1 with my OS says that it is unknown device and when i put my other one in it says hard drive

not sure if this will help, but I know on "some" multi-hdd setups, it may be jumpered to slave/master. Make sure the OS hdd is jumpered to master...
