Hi,

I've talked to so many people, none of which knew what to do, so I really hope you guys here do.. I just bought a VAIO laptop, it's got 160 GB, 140 showing on "my computer". However, only 85 seem to be left and I don't know why!!! My files are about 20 GB big, programmes 3 and Windows 9. Where did the other 20 GB go???? This is really bothering me, as my main reason for getting a new lappy was to have more space on it and now this :(
Could it be Sony bloatware? But if so, then wouldn't it show under "programmes"? That file is only 3 GB big though... I really hope someone can help, please... I have no idea about computers, so I'm utterliy clueless!!

Thanks!

Well, I am not to sure but when you install XP you have the option to seperate your hard drive into many pieces, it is like cutting a cake in half. I am not to sure how to check how many partions you have.

Windows Vista 64-bit operating system takes about 15 gigabytes of hard drive space (compare that to Windows XP 32-bit Home Edition which takes about 1.5 gigabytes). It is normal for a 160 gigabyte hard drive to be 7 percent below its advertised price.

If you are comparing the detected drive space to the number written on the box of the Hard Drive Disk realize that the definition of "gigabyte" on the box and reality differ. The box's definition will be 1E9 bytes while reality's definition is 2^30 (1073741824 bytes). This introduces a scaling factor of 1953125:2097152 or roughly 0.93; this means that the actual space is 93% of the advertised price.

But how do I find out and get rid of what I don't need? And wouldn't those pre-installed things be in the Programmes folder??

Also, I checked and everything on my C drive only takes up 40 GB, hence, I'm missing 15, as out of 140, I've only got 85 left.. They couldn't be anywhere but on C now, could they? Sorry, I'm so stupid..
