I finally hear talk of the 8900's

The Geforce 8950 GX2 is a dual-chip card based on a new 80 nanometre G80 chip, probably codenamed something else. Both GX2 GPUs are clocked at 550MHz and the difference is GDDR4. The card comes with 2x512MB of 256-bit GDDR4 memory clocked at 2000MHz. The card has 96 Shaders, per chip. It will be priced at $600.

The second in Nvidia's spring line-up is the Geforce 8900 GTX clocked at 700MHz GPU and 2200MHz memory. The chip still has a 384-bit memory interface and comes with 768MB of memory. The card uses a new 80 nanometre chip and has 128 Shaders. Compared to the Radeon X2800XTX it will end up shorter on clock and memory interface. You can compare them here.

The Geforce 8900 GTX is priced at $550.

Meanwhile, the Geforce 8900 GTS is a new card clocked at 600MHz GPU with 2000MHz GDDR4 memory. It supports the 320-bit memory controller and comes with 640Mb of memory. This card should cost $500 and it is using the 80 nanometre chip. This card will still have 128 Shader units.

The current king of the crop, the 8800 GTX will drop in price to $450, while the Geforce 8800 GTS loaded with 640MB of memory stays up in the $400 price range.

Nvidia has two more 80 nanometre cards. The Geforce 8900GT with 600MHz core and with a 256-bit memory interface comes with 512MB of 1800MHz GDDR3 memory. It has 96 Shaders and is built on a 80 nanometre process and will cost $400.

The 8900 GS will be the cheapest G80-based card. The 80 nanometre based beast is clocked at 550MHz core and 1600MHZ memory. The card has the 256-bit memory controller and comes with 256 or 512MB of GDDR3 memory. It also has 96 Shaders. The 256MB version will cost $200 while 512MB incarnation will end up at around the $250 price mark.

The apparently-leaked document mentions G84 and G86 chips but we have some details to confirm. The original story with document is here.

Found all of this in another forum that had captured information from their Nvidia insider.

I want one of those 8950GX2's, the 8900GS will be good for budget builds. Now just to play the "waiting game".:D

8900GS good for budget? At first they will still cost more than just about every NVIDIA card minus the 8800GTX and GT. And if your lucky the 7900GTX.

Though with the release of the 8900, the 7900's are likely to become the new "best bang for buck' card. Great performance at a soon to be reasonable price, when the 8900's are released.

But cant wait none the less. It'll push the price of other cards down and give ATI's new card (when it FINALLY comes out) an even higher level to match.

No, have you forgotten about DX10? It said $200 for 256Mb in my post, I think that is pretty friggin' budgeted. That is why the rush is on for the 8-series cards, since the rush is on, then the price is on. ATI's new card? If you're speaking of the 2900XT and 2600XT, it's been out for 2 weeks, keep up!!

so the 8900 GS is basically the medium between the 8600 GTS and 8800 GTS?

cause it has 256 bit memory interface instead of the 128 that the 8600 GTS (whatever that means)

it sounds like it's going to be a really nice budget card if so, maybe I should wait for the 8900 gs to come out, it is going to be roughly 250$ for the 512 version and 200$ for the 256 mb version right? (which doesn't make sense though because the 8600 gts is roughly 180$ cheapest)

excuse my premature video card knowledge as I don't know much :o

The 8600GTS is a G84 processor, the 8900GS is the G80 the same that is in the 8800GTS and GTX. So, it will probably be a good budget, overclocking card, you can make it run right below the 8800GTS. I will get my hands on an 8950GX2, can't wait!!

So you're saying that I could have dual 8950GX2's??

Man if that's so, I will wait to build my new system.

Kent.

So that means I will have all up 2Gb of GFX processing power?

I am so doing that.

Kent.

SLI mirrors the memory, so no you won't double the memory size. but fortunately for you no resolution or game requires 2gb of graphics memory.

and for the record, the memory size has nothing to do with the processing power of the gpu. that's all in the architecture and the core clock, or for the laymen it's in the model # i.e. 8800gt, 8800gtx.
