I give up on my PC

I would consider myself as a computer novice and I built my first computer about a year or so ago. However, every once in a while I run into major problems that force me to reinstall the whole OS, drivers, and applications all over again from scratch. Where as my laptop I rarely have to do this. Maybe, I did not set up the BIOS correctly, or I just did not set up the software right.

Today I turned my computer on and it gets stuck on the MoBo brand screen. I can't get in to the OS. It was working perfectly last night!! I decided to give up on my first build PC. I want to buy a desktop from a manufacturer so that I won't run into such problems anymore. I was hoping you guys could tell my how much I could get for the parts of my PC:

AMD 64 3200+ Sck939

ASUS A8V DELUXE MOBO Sck939

SEAGATE 300 GB IDE Hard Drive

Antec Performance I P180 Silver cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower

Nvidia XFX 6600 GT AGP

500 Watt Power Supply

1 GB RAM DDR400 PC3200 (2 X 512Mb)

SAMSUNG 16X DVD±R DVD Burner With 5X DVD-RAM Write and LightScribe Black ATA/ATAPI Model SHS162LBEBN

LITE-ON DVD Burner Beige IDE Model SOHW-1633S

Also it would help me out if you could recommend a manufacture where I can get my new PC (Dell,HP,Gateway...). Thanks

I doubt your computer would be too hard to fix... It sounds like some minor hardware conflict. Probably that early on are normally CD or HD related. Try running without the drives connected and see if it goes beyond that point. if not, I have some other suggestions if you care to try them.

As for selling, just look on newegg for your parts. That'll all I'd do then subtract a few $100 since it's used.

Yep, probably around $400

However, you are going to run into 10 times more problems with a manufacturer's computer than a computer that you build yourself.

i bought a cheap celeron tower to run as a server from blackfriday :) so far no problems.... it is a COMPAQ btw....

Well maybe it won't be too hard to fix for some of you guys but for me I'm pretty much self tought with limited knowledge. From all my friends I know the most about computers. $400 if I'm lucky huh?? Well I guess I'll have to try and fix it again since selling the parts won't give me enough $$ for a new one.

Also do you guys know of a good software backup? I used to use Norton Ghost 2003 as my backup which worked perfect for me. However, after having to reinstalled the OS from a major problem I had the software would not work anymore (don't know why). I appreciate the help...

what i do at work is running a batch command to backup the files to a usb drive.

what happens is if you want to do it along with the system files you'll need to run two mirrored drives on the computer so backing up from the drives that are not using the system files or any files that are currently in used by the os. :)

STICK WITH IT MAN.

Everyone has problems with building their PC, Alright step by step now

- Install Ram and Graphics card only
- See if you can turn on n get up to where it says something like hdd missing.
- If Not, Remove a stick of ram, 1 at a time to find if its the ram, (bad Stick)
- try ram in different slots.
- try running on 1 stick
- If Still havin problems email me at [email protected]
- BUT

- if it gets too the hdd not found thing
- plug in hdd, making sure Jumpers (jumpers are the lil plastic things that go in back of hdd) are set to MASTER
- plug it in and try too boot.
- if you get an error, POST THE EXACT ERROR HERE.
- If you can get onto the Windows Interface, go Start - Accessorys - System Tools - System Restore (this is HOPING you did a system Restore)
- Or Better Yet, Get the file/s You need, put them on a flash stick, If not your gunna have to turn off, plug in burner and burn the files you want.
- In best case senario, DO A CLEAN RE-FORMAT.
- If Unsure how to do it, Again, Repost.

Good Luck, This took me ages to type. You Better Try IT! lol

Disconect ALL non essential items from the computer, keep keybord, and screen.

My computer does that if i have my memory stick attatched.

Ok, I opened my computer up check the cables disconnected everything and turn it on. It worked! Then for the hell of it I hooked up everything back as it was and it work's now, like nothing ever happen. Still can't figure out what made my computer crash.

Thanks for the help...
