so the noob question is if i were to get a q6600 which is clocked at 2.4 would each core be divided at 800 mhz or is each core clocked at 2.4 ghz

No, each core is clocked at 2.4Ghz. However you cannot simply add the cores together, Multi-core processors are much more complicated than that. Suffice it to say that programs and games need to be coded to work with a multi-core, or there will be little advantage, other than multi-tasking, to owning one.

Each core is clocked at 2.4Ghz, but the speeds don't add up, if a program is not coded to support multi-core CPUs, then it will not benefit from the other cores.

ok thanks guys i was having an argument with my friend he kept saying the clock speed is divided upon each core

ok thanks guys i was having an argument with my friend he kept saying the clock speed is divided upon each core

And even if that was true, how is it 800mhz each core? 2400 / 4 = 600 (NOT 800)

Does your friend know his/her timetables?

lol

Haha, More sand to kick in his face. Not only were you wrong, But you suck at math!

I'm kidding don't jibe 'im to hard ;)
