Hey guys,
I have a LG K1 Express. I had so many virus's and had no anti virus that i decided to "Re-install Windows XP assuming it would wipe it all out. I put my LG Recovery disk in thinking it would just take over my previous one But i guess i was very wrong! So can someone please please give me some advice on how i could take it out, I read somewhere u cant :( :( :( please help..

It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 4 ur time.

Possibly just reformat the drive and reinstall fresh? I avoid recovery disks, they tend to do funky things.. better off with a regular XP install disk.

I dont mind i basically lost everything. As u can see im not very good with comps n laptops. I did try to format it though but each time i tried to format, it says the following

"Windows canot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that nowindow is displaying the sontents of the drive. Then try formatting again."

I did close everything, so i dont know what i could possibly be doing wrong

if you're running one of the versions of XP off the hard drive it won't reformat. I usually run a bootable version on Ubuntu and use gparted. I'm sure there's another way to do it though, just not sure what it is, sorry.

I think it would be easier to just reformat your hard drive and re-install windows XP. I don't have an anti-virus installed and I have yet to encounter one virus.

yeah i would elitehacker, but since i now have 2 xp installed like eztrog88 said it wont format because its running off the same hard drive. so im completely lost.... anymore suggestions?? anything at all?

eztrog88 what is ubuntu and gparted?? sorry dont have a clue.

Ubuntu is a linux distribution, gparted is a partition utility. You put your XP recovery disk in the drive and restart the computer, hold C to boot from the disk and it should let you reinstall. Chose whatever formating option will let you wipe the whole drive and reinstall using the whole drive. If that won't work PM me and I'll walk you through wiping it via Ubuntu.

XP installer has its own partitioning tool. If you don't need anything from your hard drive then its very easy to format it using the XP boot disk. All you have to do is boot from CD and follow the prompts to install a fresh copy of windows, it allows you to format any partition on the hard drive.
If you do need some files, then instead of trying to use Linux it would be easier to transplant your hard drive as a slave in another system, get the files you want, and also use the other system to format your hard drive in windows and then install it back into your own computer and use the XP boot disk.
I think that would be easier than trying to use Linux.

How I would do an clean reformat and reinstallation due to an virus:

Pop the CD into your laptop drive and reinstall

Wait till you get the "Press any key to boot from the CD"

Go through the loading process

Go through the Agreement, press ESC to do an whole reformat...

Then delete ANY partitions on the HDD

Create an new partition... an NTFS one... Using the quick mode.

Press enter, and the installation begins.

Professional or Home? Professional has an Windows Firewall... Probably already blocking tons of things that you thought you "didn't know about"
