I have 400 Dollars what 939 chip is best?

i do alot of rhino rendering and auto CAD work.. what chip would be best. i was thinking of a opertron 170 which is about $395 any ideas

Why are you going with a socket 939 chip? If you can wait a week then I would recommend the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 for $319.

Well obviously, I was saying that if he's getting a new computer, he should wait until Conroe.

In either case, he should wait until after Conroe comes out since the prices will be drastically lower.

nope just putting a new chip in... i bought a 3200 to keep the price of the build down and now i have to money to get a chip

Oh ok, well I would actually go with the X2 3800+, since it's significantly cheaper and the Opteron 170 isnt that much better then it. Like I said before, wait until next week before buying since then the prices will be almost cut in half.

thats odd the stats of the 3800 to the 170 indicate is a great buy compared to any of the X2's not that im argueing but since its a server chip its more durable better quality silicon higher potential for overclocking. huge amount of internal chip memory L1 128 kb x 128 kb and L2 2x 1mb just a thought

The difference between the Opteron 170 and X2 3800+ is that of the X2 3800+ and X2 4200+. And the difference between those two is very minimal in most tasks. Basically you're just paying $100 more to get another 1MB of Cache, it may or may not be worth it for you.

i agree omega but the programs i use are very memory intensive so the extra memory will be worth the effort plus i dont want to put the money into something and then wish i had spent 100 dollars more after spending 300 ya know.

Ok so it may be worth it for you in the long run, but it's not going to be an Earth shattering difference, just to point out ;).
