I understand you want to format drive C: with windows 98 on it?
Create win98 startup disk (in add/remove programs), boot with that disk and use FDISK.

You can make a boot floppy disk by right clicking my computer and selecting format the check make DOS startup disk.

Then on the floppy or on another one download DELPART fromhttp://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm the use Fdisk or if you are using XP just reinstall xp after you do DELPART

You cant format the C: drive when your in Windows if thats where your data is stored.

And if you format it in DOS, you will lose all your data.

I've been sitting here for sbout 10mins tring to think what to then then I thought put your HD is a healthy machine as a slave then copy your data off then reinstall windows.
