I have and odd problem with a new PC

This power suply does not have the PCI-e plug which I learned about today, I was under the idea that the card still used the regular (disket type) adaptor, but I get to find out the need this new 6 pin plug, so I run to Fry's before they close buy the adaptor and run home.

(This adaptor is a 3X2 pin, using the connection from (2)1X4 plugs and using only 3 of the 4 pins on each one.)

Now I had a new problem, when I plug eveything in and hit the power button, Nothing happens, well a small move in the fans but thats it, so I investigate and come to find out that when I remove the pin from the GPU the computer does boot up, so I found out to an extent what is wrong.
Next step was I used one (lets call it Pin "A") of the 1X4 and excluded the other one (Pin "B"), works fine, so I try again but this time I power up "B" and exclude "A", now I get the same problem as before, I also try the pins on the same power cable and on different ones and to no luck, Pin "B" seems to just not want to work.

So I ask my self, Is the GPU Bad? is the Adaptor a piece of shit? does Pin "B" requiere more power then Pin "A" would causing this PSU to not work?
What do you think?

any help would be great.

What you would need by the sound of that is the correct supply with the 6 wire connector to avoid crossing ground to live as well as the proper voltages. You will want a 450w or higher powered supply that is adequate for the X1900XT. Here's the recommendation for the Power Color X1900XT.

"Power supply notes :
• Connection to the system power supply is required:
• 450-Watt power supply or greater, 30 Amps on 12 volt rail recommended (assumes fully loaded system)
• PCI Express compliant power supply (recommended). Connect directly to the power supply with a 6 pin PCI Express power connector
• For CrossFire™: 550 watt power supply or greater, 38 Amps on 12 volt rail" http://www.powercolor.com/global/main_product_detail.asp?id=105

I have a local frys I would like to run to tomorow as I do not want to wait for a new PSU from newegg, could you point me in the right dirrection there with out breaking the bank.

after removing the Sound card and trying some other things, (including only using only "A" pin it now works, do not ask me how,

Since I'm not local there you would have to go to a store like Circuit City, Best Buy, Target, I've never heard of Fry's here, or some other office supply store that carry pc accessories and supplies there.

You getting some results apparently. Just be careful toying around if you are unsure of the connections and voltages. You don't want 12v on a 5v connection or ...... !!!

This thing acts so wierd, I am assuming the PSU is shit and am going to spend money on a good on tomorow, current issues are things like 3-5 power downs on to make it boot.
Sound does not have sound although is fully installed.

I just hope you didn't damage some hardware with that one. The specifications don't show that model as being SLI certified when looking over those at one vendor. You may want to take a serious look at an Antec or Enermax supply that is. The Antec True Power II 550w was jsut ordered here for a head start on a planned build for early 2007. Enermax carries some great ones for gaming however.

That figures! My Audigy 2 ZS Gamer crapped suddenly one day for no reason. It seems like every other Creative model has a problem lately. I'm glad I went with the Audigy 4 Pro upon hearing this one. :D

They are noted for pulling power when you have a good media or game load on them. That's the one drawback with Sound Blasters while they generally offer the best sound with the EAX included. At first you were playing around with power connections to find the sound card was... rip? oh well! :( Just remember to get a supply with the correct plugs and replacement for sound.

Well the current PSU works fine with an adaptor, the Sound card will be RMA'ed tomorow
AND OMG the sound started working about 5 seconds ago (onboard)

That's certainly an improvement there. I never did get to ask about the name "BadAxe" mobo? seen in your sig. What make and model is that?

Everything is working to perfection right now, I am very happy about my computer.

with the exeption of the bad Sound card :P.

Why don't you just love "bad" Creative? ! Sometimes they are harder on your nerves rather then the system resources!   !!!

When first replacing the Audigy 2 that crapped with the 4 Pro I could have grabbed the front panel for the addition price. But since I patch a video capture card as well as everything else there that was left out. Send it right back for the replacement then. If the Audigy 4 Pro here goes before the next build is complete that may be the model I go with. Let me know how things work out with the new one.
