The big difference besides EAX seen on Creative cards used a lot here is the creation of desktop shortcuts for the speaker settings, mixer, EAX effects settings, etc.. To give you an example of how those shortcuts can make life easier, http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/2672/soundiconste7.jpg

When you put the card in did you check the bios setting to make the onboard sound was disabled? How about in both pci slots? If the onboard was left enabled you won't hear anything through the expansion card. That would have to be disabled first. If you still didn't hear anything after Windows detects the new hardware and installs the drivers that would point towards a board problem then.

is probably the expression right about now. I am slightly suspicious that a bios update maybe needed or a board driver isn't in quite fully where the pci bus is seeing a problem there. The last idea would be a board fault. Review the user's manual for Plug'n'Play and OS2 support settings in the bios.
