i just need a DVD burner...

I don't know how much they go for now, but NEC has some of the best burners around. Mine cost about $60 a couple years ago, so they might be closer to 50 now... Mine's a NEC 3520A if I remember correctly. So far it's yet to mess up a single DVD.

DO NOT GET THE SONY,,, It does not have the pioneer chip set

get the NEC that the_other_one suggested or the 3550.
or theone I got the LG gsa 4167, ALSO good LaCie, plextor, nec, pioneer
Benq ( except for the dq60 , rebranded teac)
I went through 2 dvd burners till I found out about the chipset deal. One burner was so badly designed the company I bought it from went back on 2 company policy's and refunded the price plus shipping back to them.
newegg is a good place to shop, read the reviews, also go to cdfreaks.com, very knowledgeable ppl there.

The NEC's a great choice, it's a rebadged Pioneer. take a look at CD/DVD 101 - This is the drive that's recommended if the Plextor is out of your price range (as it is).

I did not know that about the NECs, that is good to know. Why are the Plextors so expensive ? they are $80 - $120. I would rather get a SATA dvd burner.
