and if i am, sorry, and pls remove other thread that was probly in the wrong dept. (memory and hdd's)

old hdd w/oem xp ( no copy of xp, just recovery disk). worked in new system. now wont boot in original system. what to do if can salvage os?

??put old hdd back in new system and boot from recovery cd. yes yes to first two ?'s about os,,when get to format options exit cd and return hdd to original pc and run it thru the disc options inculding restoring to fact settings(since thats what i want to do).??

will the os not work in its original environment because of its association with the new systems hardware?

any comments or other recommendations?

thanks

No it won't, sorry. There are rare, extremo rare cases that it does, but 90% of the time it won't work. You will have to reinstall.

ok, so im sure, youre saying ill have to reinstall an os to the hdd that came w/xp even tho the drive is back in its original hw environment. and then how would i get to it to format it?

my bad lol, thinking this post was the other one. all the info would be helpfull wouldnt it.
after putting the hdd in question, from the new home where i was able to reactivate oem xp, back to its original home, the old pc,,,,it will not boot. get error 5 and 8. both are floppy errors, 8 is 'fake floppy not found". then says press any key to continue, but doesnt recognize keystroke altho i can navigate in bios. when booting from recovery disk. i get the 3 options..but again doesnt recognize keystroke.
im thinking the os is unusable due to its association with the new pc's hw?

thanks

yes.
