I Messed Up (My PC)

Good morning, afternoon and evening to you ladies and gentlemen. I know that my PC is down for the count right now, but I was hoping to post what I did on here and maybe just get some confirmation that this is, indeed, my problem.

On friday I recieved a long-awaited package in the mail. My i3-560 3.33ghz Intel processor. I know now that just by researching what type of processor socket my motherboard had could have avoided this whole situation. Before I go any further, let me list my (modest) specs.

Alienware Area 51
Nforce 680 SLI
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.7
Sapphire Radeon HD 6670
x4 1gb DDR2
750w Corsair PSU
1.5 TB HD
Windows 7

So I got to work. I took off the heat sink and took out the processor, then I attempted to fit the new processor in, and I tried for about 5 minutes before realizing the mistake I made. What I think happened is, when I was trying to the put the processor in I bent some of those little metal prongs inside the socket. My symptoms are:

Turns on, but doesn't make an audible beep (alienware area 51 owners know about this) and DOES NOT boot.

No display. It's as if my graphics card doesnt exist.

NO ERROR code on the motherboard. (This is, arguably, the worst symptom)

A few times when I tried turning it on, it would simply turn itself off after 5 or 6 seconds.

I tried every simple fix I can think of and I'm stumped. I ordered a new motherboard with a socket that can fit my processor, but I'd like to get my pc up and running at least until then.

Tell me, avid PC experts, did I mess up and dent the prongs on the mobo? Please, go easy on me. The failure of this project is depressing me enough as it is.

I take it you did not realize the new cpu was a different socket from the motherboard ?

I assume your intel core 2 duo is a 775 socket cpu ?

On your original motherboard and cpu are you sure the pins are in the motherboard socket and not pins on the cpu ?

100% The bottom of the cpu is flat except for that small portion in the middle obviously. The pins are definitly in the motherboard socket

You will really struggle to straighten the pins in the socket and it depends how many and how badly bent or broken they are, do you have any strong magnifying glass ?

You know what that's actually a really good idea. I don't know if I have one on hand but either way I wouldn't be able to do it today. I was borrowing a friends tools for the job yesterday. From what I saw the pins werent broken but just bent. If even one pin was snapped off tho would it even be worth trying?

I changed CPU in my ASUS P8P67 quite a lot, and one day I bent some pins.
I tried sending it to repair, but they wouldn't do it and said I had lost my warranty.
Options were: Throw it away or fix it
I used a loop (magnifying glass) and the thinnest knife I could find.
I can still boot my i7-2600k at 5.25GHz, so works fine as hell.
Just take your time, do the job right.

It is not just broken pins that are a problem, a lot of the time when you try to straighten a bent pin it will break, be as gentle as you can when you try to straighten any bent pins and be careful not to knock against the other pins.

I'll make sure to follow that advice. Thanks for the help guys. When I get a chance to get it done I'll post my results.
