Well, to tell you the truth, you won't be happy with a dell. As soon as you "upgrade" it, it will die on your very quicly. The older dell's psus didnt burn out because of the general low power consumption. But todays high end video cards will break a weak PSU.
You can get a dell if you please, but don't expect much. Especially with a $500 budget, with a dell, good luck even getting one with a video card!
your lucky your even get a pci-e slot. i know somebody from work he bought a dell and wanted a video card. at the time AGP was the thing. he insisted he had a slot, i sold him a used ATI video card that wasnt half bad at the time. his computer didnt even have an AGP slot. what a waste of money and a piece of ****. every modern computer should come equiped with a video card slot. if its not its pure crap. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Dell is known among system builders and gamers for have propertary garbage. there power supplies are NON standard(usually barely enough wattage to run the system out of the box), hard drives (who knows what brand) are usually the cheaper variety, motherboards are crap too. Dell is NOT a named brand PC. its simply a non standard computer built by a company looking to make loads of cash. they take the company that will offer them parts at the lowest bid. when you think of name brands think of asus, gigabyte, msi, biostar, atec, BFG, coolermaster, kingston, western digital, seagate. those are all decent components. even the cheapest build your own motherboard is still better than the one offered in a dell. yes, go to your local computer store, they will build you a decent machine, even if on a budget. go to tiger direct, or newegg. OR better yet get on the internet and research how to build your own. there are countless articles on the topic. often when you buy a named brand board, like gigabyte they include instructions on how to do it. you will be much happier with the results and will have a machine with virtually unlimited upgradability. in the end DONT BUY A DELL.Well, to tell you the truth, you won't be happy with a dell.
