I need a new PC. my old one is a 2005 dell dimension 3000, and its running slowly. This time, I'd like to buy from a website like cyberpowerpc.
but I'm not sure what parts to get.

I'd like to be able to play some newer games, and HD video editing in Premiere Pro.

I'd Prefer an Intel Processor and a Nvidia Card, but I'm not quite sure about Who makes the better card. (Nvidia or ATi) I've had a lot of good luck with Nvidia before, though I was thinking of a GTS 250, GTX 275, or GTX295. I don't need a really high end card, either.

Preferable 8GB ram, but 4 GB would do if need be.
 
budget?

For a mid-high end PC, I'd go for

Processor: Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz
Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
Harddrive: 1TB 3.5" 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
Graphics: ATI Radeon 5770 1024MB GDDR5 Graphics
Power Supply: 750w ATX Power Supply
Motherboard: Intel H55 Express Chipset

If you factor in the OS and even the VDU, that shouldn't set you back more than about £700 :) It's got the intel CPU you wanted but I've chosen ATI graphics

im looking at that page, its pretty cool page.. id go with an I5 or I7 processor with 8mb cache, id at least (at minimum ) get a gtx 260 or an ati equililant , dont go for the gts 250

at least 4 gigs or ddr3 ram

I see fastdude and I have the same CPU, I love my processor, i pretty much love my build, it should do the job and shouldnt be more than 650 dollars

Why not go for a GTS250? My friend says its a good chip...
but then again he knows very little.
 
@burning, I just remember someone telling me the gtx 260 is a better card, and the gts is far behind, this was 7-8 months ago... as far as cooling, I have never water cooled, Ive always used air, it you are trying to overclock the machine by a large percentage, you'd be best to get a second opinion , because I really have never had luck OC'ing my machine more than 10 % (I use stock cooling)

"Yeah the 260 is much more futureproof. The 250 ( as said above ) is basically a 9800GTX+ .......I have one and its starting to age a bit. I play @1440/900 on my 19in Samsung.
My advice get the 260 ( hopefully core 216 ) and save money and do the monitor later. "
 
Video card - Don't get GTX 260. New GTX 260 is looking at $200. However, you can find GTS 250 512MB at $80 - 90. If you really want nivida card, get single GTS 250 or GTS 250 in SLi. You will need 750W PSU if you go for SLi set-up.

If the GTS250 is basically a 9800GT I probably won't buy it. Because, I'm already running a 8800GT. What other cards are available to buy? You can Say ATi, but I don't know as much about the ATi's as I do the Nvidias. also, I hear a lot of games are optimized for Nvidias so thats why I use the Geforce Series of GPUs
