I need a pc for $800 or under

Hey guys, thanks in advance for the help but here we go, I'm gonna have 800 bucks to spend next week and really miss having my pc so I need to build/buy a pc for 800 including the monitor/os and everything, I would like this pc for gaming and at least be able to run f.e.a.r, half life 2, elder scrolls 4 etc...if you wouldn't mind taking the time to help me I would very much appreciate it, thanks.
 
if you want a gaming pc your gonna have to spend a lot more than $800 if you wanna be able to run f.e.a.r, HL2 and Oblivion.

im building one right now and im spending over $2000
 
Praetor's $500 gaming config should play games like HL2 and FEAR, albeit not at high settings. Adding in a monitor and software it should still be within budget.
 
well my setup is for the next gen games but if u want to play games like that then you should still spend about £1200- £1500

save some more m8 then get one. or build it then add more to it over time
 
yea building is deffinatley ur best bet... just the best thing is get a good graphics card,mobo,psu, and ram... maybe some other good stuff... but as for case and monitor... i wouldnt spend that much on it... those arnt really important at the moment with an 800 dollar budget heh...

Just because you're spending more than the average joe on a computer, don't think that nobody elses computer can play any games because it's cheaper. You can get decent gaming computers for under $1000, though you can get (increasingly less) performance gains for (increasingly more money). For an exagerated example, an $80000 computer performs practically the same as a $10000 computer
 
I managed to design quite a nice $800 gaming PC playing on newegg... but it's the monitor, keyboard, speakers etc that are in the way of making it a good gaming PC.

very tru... but $800 computer will be very different then a $1000 computer... it is like a rubber band it gets harder to pull as u go on pulling it and it doesn't stretch much more... if u get what i am saying






ok... im making 2 configurations, 1 that meets ur budget, and wil play the games u mentioned... but barely... and another PCwill be just a few 100 over and is what you should be more patient and get...:)

Configuration 1:
buy some cheap@$$ case and get a PSU and u will be a little over ur budget...

you really should save up a bit 1st... get this (or even better would be wait until AM2)

around $1090

and then here are some cool cases... any of them would be fine:

im not just talking about a pc im talkin about the whole thing. if you spend $800 on just a system u will do pretty well with that but a monitor and other little extras (speakers, keyboard and mouse(if you want a gamers mouse and keyboard that is))does bump up the price by quite a bit.

all im sayng is if u want the whole kit (pc, monitor etc) then save a little more than $800, maybe $1100 for the bare essentials.

Yer if u want a cool case i suggest the Aspire X-CRUISER its a hell of a case and its not even that expensive! (click on Encore's link of it above

again this should be everything but monitor. also includes a $20.00 modem cause i cant get DSL yet. so take that off. 951.79 before shipping and handling and/or tax. which i have to pay cause i'm in TN. that sucks cause its over $100.00.

maybe someone can adjust this setup for you. i have been looking for 4 weeks at this and cant seem to get it any lower to suit me. i already lowered the RAM and PSU and mobo. so......
edit: i forgot you could pick a lower GB hard drive and save a few dollars and go with AMD Athalon 3200 processor and save a few $$$. oh and a cheaper case that comes with its own power supply. i just figured if i'm spending this much go ahead and spend a little more and get as good as i could the first time.

the X850XT is better for gaming as is the 4200+, the 3800+ isn't as fast wich is needed... tru it can be overclocked, but when people come to ask what computer they should get, i figure that if they don't know wut to buy then they are not at a stage to overclock....

i am not saying the 3800+ isn't good, it is a VERY good processor, but isn't very good for gaming compared to the Athlon 3700+ or even 3500+... let alone the X2 4200+
 
but the 3800 is x2 comared to single of tthe 3700 and 3500 and the x2 would be good for gamin since a lot of people still use single core for gamin and get the highest settings as for gpu let me check on that

one of the x2 3800+ is cores is comparable to the 3200+ core... and since most games now utilize only one core the 3700+ and 3500+ are better for gaming... it is true that games in the future will be dual-core supporting but in that future the 3800+ isn't gona be good cus of its low clock speed... this is why i recomended the X2 4200+ cus it is more future proof... u can argue the X2 3800+ can be overclocked but u can also argue the X2 4200+ can be overclocked... plus i don't think this guy is gona be doing overclocking

because about %99 of all thegames out only utilize one core (the only game that uses both is quake 4 and COD2)
which means that if he had the x2 3800+ he would only be usin 1 core... and that processor's core isn't very good alone... one core is comparable to the core of an athlon 3200+ or 3000+... however the x2 4200+ would be muchmore comparible if it was only using one core and it is more future proof

baisically a single core processor is usually better than a dual-core that is only using one core
 
I'd be fine with a 3200 probably, my old pc was a dell and it had a p4 2.66 ghz proc, 1.2 gb kingston hyper X ram, 80 gb hd, geforce fx 5700 LE, and ran doom 3, half life 2 just fine on high graphics, so pretty much everything you guys threw out there is better than my old pc :) thanks so much for the help guys, and yeah I could OC a CPU, maybe not as easy as you guys but I figure if I can overclock a video card without help I can read a cpu overclocking tutorial :D
