total: 216. there's a 20.00 mail-in so its 196...but after shipping its around 220.

hit me with it, i expect someone will point out the mobo sucks....and i picked that RAM cause it has a rebate, its DDR2 dual channel, and the CAS latency is 4.

Everything but the supply should fit together as a more basic case. Realtek can see problems at times for onboard sound just to let you about that as well as VIA and SIS chipsets not on the favored list here. But Asus is one of the better makes of boards.

1.6ghz for a cpu however will be quite a bit sssslowwww no matter who makes it! You may find a faster model OEM unless you are planning on the stock hsf in a retail box. Patriot is a recent but not bad brand of memory from all indications. But these are some things to look over especially a cheap brand supply found at a cheap price. A good one found with a rebate or onsale would leave you in better shape.

im a fan of asus so i think that you got a nice quality mobo, the processor could be better, and 2gbs of ram should be ok for a start, you can always expand if it doesnt work out, gl!

Asus is also very picky with memory. If that memory is not in its SUPPORTED list... Bad news for you.

Total after rebates including shipping: $258.27

I know for a fact that most of the prices changed (I have a little file cabinet with builds...)

The case lost the rebate... and maybe a few things changed.

thanks...
i plan on OCing the hell out of that processor, so dont worry about it. i just need to know the best bang for my buck mobo that i can do some decent overclocking on. any suggestions?

With plans on ocing you'll first want to dump the supply fast from the list! You'd be far better off reviewing the sticky on supplies espscially the good/bad lists to get better ideas and then find a good price somewhere. http://www.computerforum.com/90118-useful-psu-case-guides.html

As far as Patriot the brand seems to be doing well for those that were running that brand on Asus boards. For ocing that would take a better look into performance types of memory then. That's when the prices start to climb now with that added into the mix.

The problem there unless you already have it would be the methods for cooling when planning to oc alot. Some items like the cpu cooler, larger or additional case fans, vpu cooler, memory cooler, you name it will catch a higher price overall. $250 in actuality is still only going to see a more basic machine lacking the "extras" needed for that.
