I need a router and i know nothing about them...please help

I live in a small town-home with three other people, and each of us has a laptop. We were just picking up signal from a neighbor but i think they just recently blocked it off and now we are stranded.

we are all completely clueless as to what kind of router to buy. From what i have read so far there are apparently three different kinds? other than that i don't know a thing and no amount of googling has helped because i dont know what any of it means.

If it matters or helps with your answer, we are all using the internet generally for school and just basic browsing. I play games occasionally but it isn't really anything too sophisticated.

If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated :)

Definitely. No point in buying a router until you have an Internet provider. They may insist on you using their equipment.

Alternatively you could find another neighbour whose bandwidth you could steal...... It's so hard to find a piggyback these days who can support three more surfers.
