I need a wireless usb receiver, how can I be sure that I buy the correct model?

Should work, although it looks pretty cheap so don't be surprised if it flakes out sometime soon.

Usually for wireless compatibility you're looking at the 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac. Most everything supports G these days (as it's pretty old, but newer ones are backwards compatible), so it should be usable for basic connectivity with your Fios router.

What router do you have? If you have a dual band (2.4 & 5Ghz) router then you may want a USB adapter that supports dual band as well.

So I guess I am going to go with a PCI WLAN equivalent as that is what the local compute store has in stock... I'm wondering if this is a better? Perhaps a larger antenna or better connection?

I am hesitant as I have to use this for a different desktop build where a USB would seem to be guaranteed interchangeable.

Because I am impatient also again unsure of compatibility

I'm "hoping" that both this computer and the next computer support PCI internet connectiœn

Pretty much any PCI or USB wifi adapter will work, I think you are worrying too much about compatibility.

Your router supports b/g.

N and AC adapters are backwards compatible. Therefore, you can use a b,g,n or ac adapter. 5 GHz or A adapters are incompatible since your access point doesn't have a 5 GHz radio to broadcast with.

99% of cards manufactured in the last 10 years or so are backwards compatible with B and G. ;)

There's no difference between USB and PCI other than some PCI cards have external antennas that you can move.

cool

thanks for the help guys
