Windows Media Player really doesn't have surround sound, it fakes it. Unless you have some plug-in WMP plays the same sound on all of the speakers other than the subwoofer. Go to options and then the DVD menu, choose advanced, and there is some surround sound setting in that menu.

I don't get your last post. What program are you using? Windows Media Player or PowerDVD? My post explains how to turn of surround sound in WMP, but if you are using PowerDVD, I don't know how to turn off surround sound.

Look above the selection and make sure you don't have 5 speaker configuration as the audio output, otherwise, I don't know why it won't let you do what you wish.
