I need help, please!

i have a ati radeon 9800 pro 128 and it won't post and i've tried doing everything to the mobo, vid card, bios, etc, i've read dozens of forum and so on, still doesn't work. and so i used this stupid technique: without the radeon9800's power cord connected, i let my computer running for a while (about 1-3 sec), and then i connect the radeon power cord quickly while the hd is booting,....and it works, sometimes, does not always constantly work and needs couple of trial and error.

a while ago though, when i tried to connect the ATi's power cord quickly, there was a shock - short circuit, i actually saw spark on the pwoer cable connector that i was holding,...so i turned off my comp, disconnect the main power cord from the wall,..turned it back on,..and i tried the same technique again with my vid card, and it runs,....no damage in HD, or whatsoever,....no artifact in gaming, testing CS vid stress and still got the same frame rate as before and so on. Oh, and no burning smell or so.

but recently i found out that the power plug at the radeon card, (the white thing sticked one on the video card where you actually plug the power cable in) was burned partially. so once again, i tried to turn my pc on with the same technique, and it actually still runs. Now, the questions are, did the burn come when the short circuit happened? or, i heard about this myth where ati card (the entire card and plastic)can become so hot and even the power cable connecting the card with the rest of the system can rise up to a very high temperature, is this what caused the burn?

You need to stop dealing with the symptom of the problem and deal with the proximate cause.

Do you have any other card slots you can try it on?

Look in system info, (start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system info.) And check if there is any conflicts/sharing of the card slot, when it is plugged in, and any other part of the computer.

And to answer your question of the spark: You may plug the power in quickly but you are not faster than electricity. Your spark was most probably arking. Ever noticed a spark at a plug socket when you plug somthing in which is turned on?

On the other hand if you dislike your computer so much as to warrant your desire to ark weld on the circuit board, take my advise. Use a hammer on the motherboard, you'll destroy it a lot quicker.

i don't see any conflict from the system info.

and i well, i cannot destroy my computer, yet. i'm still looking for a good motherboard. i'm still researching which motherboard that can surely compatible with the radeon 9800, because i thought the 9800 only had conflict with ABIt, but apparently i saw some people using ASUS, etc also have the same problem.

right now i'm just using the old trusty radeon 9000 pro, while for my 9800 with its burnmark, is still gonna be in the box for quite some time. and i don't even know whether that 9800 is damaged inside or not, cause i really don't know how to check it, the last time i check, the ati diagnostic gave a normal result, no reduce in MHZ, or anything, the memory was still read as 128 MB and so on, but who knows..
