i have a ati radeon 9800 pro 128 and it won't post and i've tried doing everything to the mobo, vid card, bios, etc, i've read dozens of forum and so on, still doesn't work. and so i used this stupid technique: without the radeon9800's power cord connected, i let my computer running for a while (about 1-3 sec), and then i connect the radeon power cord quickly while the hd is booting,....and it works, sometimes, does not always constantly work and needs couple of trial and error.
a while ago though, when i tried to connect the ATi's power cord quickly, there was a shock - short circuit, i actually saw spark on the pwoer cable connector that i was holding,...so i turned off my comp, disconnect the main power cord from the wall,..turned it back on,..and i tried the same technique again with my vid card, and it runs,....no damage in HD, or whatsoever,....no artifact in gaming, testing CS vid stress and still got the same frame rate as before and so on. Oh, and no burning smell or so.
but recently i found out that the power plug at the radeon card, (the white thing sticked one on the video card where you actually plug the power cable in) was burned partially. so once again, i tried to turn my pc on with the same technique, and it actually still runs. Now, the questions are, did the burn come when the short circuit happened? or, i heard about this myth where ati card (the entire card and plastic)can become so hot and even the power cable connecting the card with the rest of the system can rise up to a very high temperature, is this what caused the burn?
