Here is my setup
SB6121 router>switch1>switch2>switch3

switch1: connected to VOIP, Dell desktop, D-Link router
switch2: located in basement and provides connecting point for living room tv and basement tv
switch 3: Sony TV, Panasonic Blu-ray player, receiver

Switch1 works fine, but I can't get an internet connection on switch2 or switch3.

My house wiring only allows me to setup the switches in this configuration.

My computer is not setup for a static IP address, either. Do I need to configure the D-Link DGS-1005G Gigabit switches in any way? If so, how?

First of all the 6121 is only a cable modem, not a router.

It needs to be hooked up this way.

modem to router to switches. All the switches must either be hooked up to an existing switch or the router itself.

I know, why can't the switches be daisy-chained? Why does a my router need to be in series with the switches? How can I get around any IP conflict? This particular D-Link switch does not have a weblink device menu configurator, either.

You need the router to serve DHCP and route the traffic to the appropriate systems. The switch simply forwards the traffic, but the router is required to route it. You can daisy chain the switches, but the router has to be between the modem and the first switch.

Trying running this ...

Do make sure that your devices are within the routers IP range.
