Hello, I need a new laptop (for work, (i travel alot) and also for gaming!) so I went on alienware website... trying to find good laptops, when im personalizing, I need to chose my processor and there are two that cost the same. I have no idea of what is the difference between this:

Intel® Core™ i7-620M 2.66GHz (3.33Ghz Turbo Mode, 4M cache) add $0

Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache) [Included in Price]

Is the first one, i7-620 only a 2.66GHz? (what does the 3.33 turbo mode means?) And the second one has 1.6GHz times 4 ? (and then, whats the 2.8 turbo mode mean?)

I also see that one is 4MB cache and the other one is 6MB cache.

Can someone please light me up on this. :(

the i7 620M is a dual core mobile processor--the turbo mode is the i7 chip self overclocking. If you open a program like CPU-Z you can watch the clock change based on what tasks you are doing.

the i7 720M is a quad core mobile processor

yea so i guess that the quad core or the dual core should do prolly the same kinda job, if they are worth the same$$. Looks like having a quad is cooler haha ! O yeah another question. Whats the difference between 4MB cache and 6MB, basicaly.,. what is the cache. haha im a little bit noob :P

it is about 2000$ but i took: Alienware TactX Keyboard & GAMING Razer Mamba Wireless Laser Gaming Mouse about 220$.

I wonder if i can find the same kind of laptop. in the same range of performance for a beter price.

That 6-cell battery will probably only last about an hour to an hour and a half max.

Yes I know the batery wont last long but most of the time, I will be able to plug it in. (I have never personaly owned a laptop) is it okay to let it pluged in even if its fully charged? does it depend on the kind a charger or laptop

So lets say that this:Intel Core i7 720QM(1.60GHz) in the ASUS laptop is already turbo mode? or they just dont show it on Newegg.com  =

Well if it's your first laptop you won't know what your missing, but to put it in perspective your average MacBook will last around 3-5 hours, a netbook will last 4-6 hours, and your average mid-range laptop should last 2-4 hours.

It's perfectly fine to plug in your laptop when it's charged or partially charged, typically laptops won't charge the battery unless it's below a certain percentage (typically ~95%). The only thing I would say though, is that since batteries are only good for a certain number of charge/discharge cycles, that if you unplug your laptop for a bit and then go back to your desk, but have plans to move again shortly, I would just leave it unplugged. Plugging it in every few minutes is not good for the battery.

As for the processor, I don't believe they come in turbo mode, it's probably an option that needs to be enabled in the BIOS or from within Windows. I've never owned a mobile i7 though so I can't say for sure.
