Are you sure you've got a 512MB stick and if so, does your motherboard support modules of that size?

well as of right now i have no choice i have to use it but im not sure if it can handle it thatz y im askin for information if anyone knows wat i should do.. itz a pentium 3 i figured that it would be compatible for the computer

yah umm pentium 3 mbs probably wont support the speed of the ram, it is most likely pc2700, pc3000, or pc3200. if you can, find the model number of the mother board as well as a link to the exact piece of ram that you bought, some kind of serial number located on the ram,or located where it says pcXXXX or ddrXXX on the ram itself.

Pentium 3 boards does not support new RAM modules available in the market nowadays. Your mother boards probably support the SD RAM type (The old ones) PC100 or PC133, you will have to check which one of them your board support.

The one you bought is probably a DDR RAM module with a higher speed, this won't be supported on P3 boards.

I personally have a P4 board which supports a max of PC133 RAMs, the one you just bought (if it's a DDR with higher bus speed above 133 Mghz) won't work with my board even though it's a P4 one.

the VIA Apollo Pro266 is a Pentium 3 chipset and it supports DDR RAM. A DDR module (184pin) wont even fit into a SD module (168pin) slot so if it fit in it i the right type. If the module wasn't supported it wouldn't be deteted as a 128 stick.

A few things could be happening:
1. You've got a 128MB stick
2. You've got a faulty stick
3. Your board doesn't support 512MB modules (not sure what this would do if you put one in, I think it wouldn't detect anything but I've never tried)
